Job summary
We are a busy and well-established GP practice based in Morley, seeking to recruit a dedicated and professional Part-Time Caretaker to join our friendly and supportive team. The hours will be a split shift between the hours of 6:30am and 8:00pm Monday to Friday. Occasionally working weekends.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that the practice premises and grounds remain well maintained, compliant, and fit for purpose for patients, staff, and visitors.
Main duties of the job
As the Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the practice premises. Hours will be between 20-27.5 per week. Your duties will include:
Opening and closing the building. Ensuring the practice buildings and surrounding grounds are maintained to a high standard and remain safe, secure, and fit for purpose. Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general handyman duties as required. Undertaking gardening and grounds maintenance to ensure the external areas are kept clean, tidy, and welcoming. Conducting regular inspections and maintenance audits to identify faults, defects, or potential health and safety risks, taking appropriate action where necessary. Liaising with external contractors and service providers, coordinating maintenance works, and monitoring the quality and completion of repairs. Supporting compliance with health and safety regulations and ensuring the practice environment meets required standards. Responding promptly to maintenance issues to minimise disruption to the day-to-day operation of the practice.
The successful candidate will be practical, organised, and able to work independently using their own initiative.

The post holder will undertake routine maintenance, minor repairs, gardening duties, and regular inspections of the premises, while coordinating with external contractors to ensure the effective upkeep of the practice.
Job Responsibilities
Premises Management
Ensure the practice buildings, grounds, and external areas are maintained in a safe, secure, and presentable condition. Carry out routine inspections of the premises to identify maintenance issues, defects, or potential hazards. Perform minor maintenance and repair work, including basic plumbing, decorating, and general handyman tasks where appropriate. Report maintenance issues that require specialist attention and arrange repairs through approved contractors. Grounds Maintenance
Maintain paths, car parks, and outdoor spaces to a high standard. Undertake gardening duties, including weeding, leaf clearance, and litter picking. Ensure entrances, pathways, and external areas remain safe and accessible throughout the year. Cleaning
To carry out general cleaning in the practice including spillages.Deep cleans to all areas, high level dusting and cleaning of all internal windows and glass doors.Health and Safety
Conduct regular health and safety inspections and report any concerns promptly. Carry out routine checks on fire exits and security systems where required. Maintain safe storage of tools, equipment, and maintenance materials. Security
Opening and closing of the premises daily.Occasional weekend work. Ensure the security of the building by reporting or addressing security concerns promptly. Respond appropriately to alarm activations or emergency maintenance issues when required.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Have previous experience within a caretaker / maintenance role, comply with system and procedures, work effectively within a team and independently, show courtesy and respect to patients and staff. To attend and participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
Desirable
Lives locally to the practice. Clean driving license. Basic handyman skills (basic plumbing, painting etc). Basic computer skills.
