About this role

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Clinical Governance Facilitator within our Maternity and Neonatal Services team.

The post holder will play an important role in supporting patient safety, quality improvement, and governance activities across maternity and neonatal services. Working closely with clinical and operational colleagues, you will contribute to the coordination of governance processes, including incident management, risk reviews, mortality reviews, and clinical audit programmes. You will support learning from incidents and reviews, monitor quality and safety actions, and assist with compliance against national maternity safety requirements and regulatory standards.

The role will involve supporting the effective use of governance systems and processes, including Datix/Insight, PSIRF, CNST, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards. You will help analyse and interpret clinical governance data to identify emerging themes, risks, trends, and opportunities for service improvement, and contribute to the production of high-quality reports, dashboards, and presentations for governance meetings and committees.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide administrative and organisational support to the Perinatal Governance Team.

- Coordinate governance processes across maternity and neonatal services.

- Maintain governance databases, action trackers, and monitoring systems.

- Ensure governance documentation is accurate, up to date, and readily accessible.

- Support compliance monitoring against Trust, regional, and national maternity safety requirements.

- Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and governance documentation for meetings and committees.

- Participate in appraisal, mandatory training, and continuing professional development.

- Comply with Trust policies, procedures, and governance arrangements.

- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding principles.

- Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

Educated to Diploma level 4 or equivalent relevant experience Evidence of continuing professional development Qualification or equivalent experience in healthcare administration, governance, quality or a related field

Desirable

Training in clinical governance, patient safety and/or quality improvement

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Good understanding of clinical governance, risk management, patient safety principles, and the importance of learning from incidents, complaints, and patient feedback. Knowledge of confidentiality, information governance, and data protection requirements within healthcare settings. Understanding of clinical audit methodology, quality improvement approaches, and maternity safety frameworks. Ability to analyse, interpret, and present complex information and data clearly, identifying trends, risks, themes, and opportunities for improvement. Ability to produce accurate, high-quality reports, dashboards, presentations, and governance documentation. Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and other relevant digital systems. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships, facilitate meetings, present information confidently, and support multidisciplinary collaboration.

Desirable

Awareness of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), NHS Resolution's Maternity Incentive Scheme, Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, and current national maternity and neonatal quality and safety programmes. Competent user of incident reporting and risk management systems, such as Datix/Insight, or the ability to develop proficiency quickly. Ability to challenge constructively, influence practice positively, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
