QualificationsDriver's License: A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work exerts moderate to arduous effort involving working, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and crawling while performing their duties at the Medical Center. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding. Must be capable of climbing over and under equipment, working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and other isolated areas. Must be able to work for extended periods in uncomfortable positions and conditions. Must be able to lift loads up to 40 pounds unassisted and 80 pounds with assistance. WORK CONDITIONS: Work will be performed inside the shop or Medical Center areas that are adequately heated, cooled, and lit but on occasion must work in service/utility areas outside with marginal/minimal ventilation. Work is performed throughout the Medical Center including patient care areas. Work performed is generally of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. At times works under conditions of extreme stress and must be able to interact effectively with Medical Center staff and perform work in a calm manner. Will occasionally have to operate a government vehicle to accomplish work required at VA outpatient clinics located off the main medical campus. Works in crowded areas and around moving machinery. Is also required to work in patient areas which are contaminated with various diseases including HIV, TB, and is issued personal protective equipment/clothing to be worn. Will be working with live electrical/electronic circuits exposing themselves to the possibility of electrical shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. Major DutiesThe employees will be assigned as an Electronics Mechanic at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, in Sioux Falls, SD. This position oversees the maintenance and operation of a wide variety of electronic equipment and systems. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Installs, modifies, overhauls, troubleshoots, and repairs complex electronic equipment and complete operational systems. Manages and takes part in the running of security cables. Manages and takes part in the installation of cabling support systems. Installs security system devices. Maintains and repairs complex telecommunication equipment and supporting cabling sub-systems. Uses computer diagnostic equipment to analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits. Documents all maintenance, repairs, installations, and checks performed on equipment and systems thoroughly. Reports work progress on jobs to immediate supervisor. Documents cabling installation and cable locations. Implements and maintains accurate cable registers and prints. Performs maintenance to various electronic equipment items that are and are not patient related. Performs incoming inspections of electronic equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturers specifications and accepted electrical safety requirements. Coordinates and communicates with contractors and other trades as needed to ensure timely completion of tasks associated with hospital operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
