QualificationsBASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; OR Have completed a formal vocational training program; OR Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment rather than continuing education. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) 2. Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays, and night time. 3. Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver¿s license. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks and procedures, for example: how to apply fertilizer evenly to avoid underfeeding or burning plants. 2. Ability to use a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers. 3. Ability to detect plant diseases and unusual or poor plant growth. This activity is a Drug-free workplace. Major DutiesNONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: GARDENER BUS TITLE: Green Keeper JOB CODE: 93018A JOB SERIES: 5003 GRADE: NA-4 FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT Major Duties: Using an industrial power mower, cuts grass on and around trees, sidewalks and buildings. Trims high grass away from fences. Picks up trash and debris around facilities and on the golf course. Using broom, shovels and rakes, cleans walks, entranceway, patios, gutters, etc. of dirt and debris as required. Cut and trims trees and removes shrubbery. Digs out large rocks and builds rock gardens. Digs ditches and gutters. Removes dirt and rocks as required. Maintains area in proper condition. Paints and marks areas, ensures that all loose grass is kept off tees and greens and that sand traps are properly raked daily. Loads, unloads, locates, relocates and carries various types of items such as tables, chairs, and supply items from and to locations by use of truck or available vehicles. Performs daily preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment used to perform assigned duties. Reports any unusual maintenance problems to Supervisor. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks and procedures, for example: how to apply fertilizer evenly to avoid underfeeding or burning plants. Ability to use a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers. Ability to detect plant diseases and unusual or poor plant growth. May require the operation of a motor vehicle, requiring a driver's license. Responsibility: Supervisor provides specific instructions as to the plants to tend and the nature of work to be performed and ensures compliance. Completes work with little review during progress. Follows directions from supervisor or manufacturer in measuring and mixing fertilizer or chemical agents. Carefully handles roots of plants to insure continued growth when transplanting. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent walking, standing, pushing of carts and wheelbarrows, bending and stooping. Occasionally climbs ladders to prune or trim vegetation and frequently lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer, seed, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is done outside and incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in hot sun and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather.
