Job SummaryYou will serve as a Natural Resource Specialist with Bureau of Land Management. The work includes performing a variety of professional and technical functions related to natural resource management. This position is open to status candidates under announcement BLM-MP-26-13007079-RH. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered for both recruitment methods. QualificationsAll qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/11/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: 75 miles from duty location (duty location addresses are listed below). You must provide proof of residency within the defined vicinity (e.g. mortgage or property deed, lease/rental agreement, utility bill, insurance policy, etc.). Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: Basic Educational Requirements: In addition to the specialized experience requirements for this position, you must meet at least one of the following: A. A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include hours worked per week. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level: Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience. Developing natural resources management plans Monitoring studies, allotment evaluations and inspections Working and coordinating with partners and the public Education: Successful completion 1-year of graduate-level education in a field of study such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. I will provide a copy of my college transcripts. -OR- Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): Successfully completed a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position AND meet one of the following: (1) Class Standing: rank in the upper 3rd of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, based on the completed courses; OR (2) Grad-Point Average (GPA): earn a GPA of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) based on 4 years of education, or based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum -or- (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field, or the required courses completed during the final two years. Note: GPA will be rounded to the one decimal place, for example, 2.95 = 3.0, 2.94 = 2.9; OR (3) Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society. -OR- Combination of education and experience as listed above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week and transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level: Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience. Monitoring and treatment across multiple resource programs Writing technical reports Identify range, riparian, and invasive species plant identification Ability to communicate with stakeholders and colleagues Education: Successful completion of two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination of education and experience as listed above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week and transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major DutiesSome of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Implements natural resource plans by developing specific land improvement projects using highly specialized methods and techniques. Leads Preparation and monitors plans to assess, improve or expand natural resources, and eliminate detrimental impacts created by other resources. Directs the collection, entering, updates, and maintenance of natural resource data according to prescribed BLM program standards. Participates on leadership teams of local groups to promote and sustain cooperative national resources conservation interest and volunteerism Serve as initial or primary point of contact for individual and local/regional natural resources groups, ascertains nature of the problems, and resolves most issues on a day-to-day basis Provides technical direction to other resource specialists, complete monitoring, submit technical reports, and performs complex analysis. The work of this position is a combination of various monitoring disciplines, including ecological, rangeland science/management, restoration, fuels and weed management. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.RequirementsMust provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
