QualificationsApplicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen out) 2. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. 3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Use of measuring instruments 5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc (includes blueprint reading) 6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment 7. Knowledge of material National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major DutiesYou will work as part of a team, using the transit to sight reference points and directing the activities of other by keeping riggers and other rope handlers informed of ship's alignment as it settles over the blocks. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include: Making hourly rounds of the docks and clocks six key punch stations to document that he made the rounds. Ensuring that the docks are operating properly; measures and logs the freeboard on each dock three times during each watch; and inspects all compartments on the #2 dock three times during each watch to ensure that no ruptures exist which would damage the dock machinery. Logging arrivals, departures and movement of all vessels in the Yard area. Performing duties involved in preparing for docking and in the operation of the drydocks and marine railways. Receiving work assignments from the supervisor in the form of oral or written instructions and job orders. Engaging in work that requires prolonged bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.RequirementsAll qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
