About the Position: This position serves as Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, involved in the design and management of safety and occupational health programs involving hazardous materials.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management; 2) Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; 3) Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; 4) Conducting inspections or risk assessments involving hazardous materials and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Major DutiesApply laws and regulations, policies and/or procedures related to safety and occupational health.Evaluate the safety of the handling, storage, and/or disposal of explosives and hazardous materials.Conduct analysis, write programs, assess lockout/tag out procedures and extend accepted safety principles in order to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive safety and occupational health program.Perform inspections and surveys of facilities, equipment, and operations for which the installation has responsibility, to ensure compliance with safety and occupational health regulations and requirements.
