The Technical Product Owner partners with technical product managers and engineering teams to translate business product strategy into technical execution. Writes user stories independently using Given-When-Then (Gherkin) format and applies AI tools systematically to accelerate delivery. Coaches teammates on effective AI-augmented practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: AI-Augmented Delivery
• Demonstrate active AI fluency — use AI assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent) as a daily co-engineer for code generation, test creation, documentation, and learning. • Apply AI tools systematically to accelerate engineering work — code generation, automated test creation, refactoring, and code review. • Use AI to accelerate research, requirements analysis, and stakeholder communication. • Coach teammates on effective AI-augmented practices and contribute to team conventions for AI use. • Validate AI-generated outputs before accepting them into deliverables.
Requirements & Story Writing
• Partner with technical product managers and business stakeholders on requirements gathering and analysis. • Write user stories independently using Given-When-Then (Gherkin) format with clear behavioral context (Given = initial state/preconditions, When = actions/triggers, Then = expected outcomes). • Define acceptance criteria covering happy paths, common edge cases, and error conditions. • Document dependencies, integration points, and validation rules clearly for development teams. • Support user research and product validation activities. • Track product metrics and support data-driven product decisions.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Participate in and contribute to requirements discovery sessions with business stakeholders. • Communicate sprint progress, story status, and delivery risks to relevant stakeholders. • Support sprint reviews by demonstrating completed work and gathering stakeholder feedback. • Build effective working relationships across business and engineering teams.
Mentorship & Growth
• Provide guidance to Associate TPOs on GWT story writing, requirements best practices, and agile delivery. • Participate actively in communities of practice for product owners. • Contribute to team templates, standards, and shared documentation. • Seek coaching from Senior TPOs to develop toward the next level of practice.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Required
• 2–4 years of business analyst or product analyst experience. • Strong analytical and communication skills. • Working knowledge of Given-When-Then (Gherkin) story writing and agile delivery practices. • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred
• Working proficiency with Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps. • Experience with BDD tools (Cucumber, SpecFlow, or Behave). • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent). • CSPO or equivalent agile certification.
