About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Medical Receptionist/Patient Care Navigator to join our busy, but supportive team at our Accrington sites 25 hours per week.

Main duties to include dealing with incoming telephone calls confidently and signpost patients to the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.

To be able to process appointment requests from patients by telephone or by the relevant NHS approved communication tool, following the Care Navigation protocol.

Will need to deal with general enquires, liaising with clinicians and other members of staff.

Involve some administrative duties as required.

Experience within General Practice and the ability to use EMIS Web software would be desirable.

Must demonstrate excellent IT skills and proficient in Microsoft Office applications is essential.

We are looking to recruit an efficient, and enthusiastic person at least 25 hours per week on a rota basis.

The hours of work will be over 5 days and between 08:00am and 6:30pm per day on a rota which may change at short notice to cover sickness and annual leave. You may be required to cover extended hours from 6.30 pm until 8.30pm one evening per week on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

The suitable team-worker will need excellent customer service/communication skills and also be flexible for any sickness/holiday cover in a very busy, computerised surgery which is open 8am 6.30pm plus extended hours until 8.30pm.

Previous experience desirable, though not essential as training will be provided.

Clerical and keyboard skills are essential.

To provide a professional and comprehensive information support service to the practice team. The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of clerical task, including the use of a PC for data inputting and operation of the EMIS Web system. To provide a point of reception contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients doctors and other members of the clinical and administrative staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE grade A to C (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

Experience Essential

Experience of dealing with the public. Good written and oral skills. Excellent telephone skills. Good IT Skills. Excellent communications skills. Ability to work under pressure. Initiative and common sense. Self-Motivator. An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.

Desirable

Previous work experience in General Practice with a knowledge of Emis Web. Previous work experience involving dealing with the public or customer care in a reception environment. A demonstrable commitment to professional development. Experience of routine administration tasks i.e. filing, record-keeping.
