WATG is hiring a Senior Technical Designer, based in our Tustin, Los Angeles, or Dallas office. This role requires in-person collaboration, with the option to work remotely only on Friday.

ROLE

The Senior Technical Designer works on large or multiple projects that are complex and require extensive knowledge of architectural practices, building systems, and construction techniques. The Senior Technical Designer is part of the project team focusing on the constructability of design, detailing, interpreting, and coordinating large-scope complex projects through all phases of the design and development of architectural projects. The Senior Technical Designer provides, refines and creates details and construction drawing details to comply with industry standards to support and ensure consistent and high-quality deliverables as each project requires. The position has extensive technical experience and knowledge in all phases of a project, focusing on design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assures efficient preparation of comprehensive architectural documentation and detailed construction drawings, in the design development, and construction documentation phases of assigned projects using CAD and BIM software

• Works closely with other design professionals, including structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, to integrate all aspects of project design

• During the Construction Administration phase, conducts site visits and assessment to gather data, verify existing conditions, and ensure alignment with design intent and construction progress

• Interprets verbal and written directions from project leaders into professionally completed documents or products

• Demonstrates leadership in ensuring that design documentation complies with applicable building codes, zoning laws, and regulations

• Completes working drawings, design sketches, presentation drawings, shop drawings, diagrams, schedules, and other computer-generated or drafted documents as required by the project

• Implements processes to reduce risks and exposure in all areas of a project

• Assures construction documentation is accurate and is responsible for quality assurance and code compliance

• Coaches and mentors others fostering a collaborative and educational work environment

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field

• Environmental accreditation preferred

• 15+ years of experience in large architectural projects, including urban and resort hotels

• Proficiency in technical skills, including AutoCAD and Revit

• Strong understanding of BIM technology, construction management software, and construction administration practices

• Familiarity with local and national building codes and standards

• Sketching skills required

• Thorough knowledge of architectural production standards, detailing, building materials, building codes and construction documents

• Demonstrated technical leadership and the ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently achieving high standards and goals

• Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with multiple deadlines

• Ability to effectively work in a team environment and manage others

• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and graphic communication skills, as well as excellent organizational skills

• Proven experience in motivating and inspiring others

• Travel may be required
