About this role

Role Responsibilities:

Design & Technical Delivery:

• Produce road designs using RoadEng (or equivalent road engineering software), balancing constructability, cost, and terrain constraints.

• Complete terrain stability assessments (TSAs) in accordance with FRPA, the tiered assessment framework, and current provincial guidance.

• Prepare bridge site plans and supporting design documentation for forestry and resource access crossings.

• Develop practical, fit-for-purpose designs that are field-constructable, avoiding unnecessary over-engineering.

• Produce and supervise the production of accurate professional deliverables with attention to quality, time, and cost parameters, both independently and in a team environment.

Quality Assurance:

• Collaborate on, improve, and maintain Regional Quality Assurance and Quality Control through Strategic's Quality Management System.

• Perform and/or audit field and office work to professional standards, including compiling field data into useful reports and recommendations.

• Maintain responsibility for the content and quality of personal work.

• Ensure complete, high-quality, timely, and accurate packaging of deliverable products to project-specific standards.

• Report on project completion status or significant issues, offering options to address them.

Professional Engagement:

• Support in administering external contractors, including conducting assessments on quality of work and level of payment as required.

• Ensure compliance with all statutory safety and professional standards legislation.

• Ensure complete and accurate field data gathering by self and field teams as required.

• Ensure effective communication methods (radio, etc.) with crew, transportation providers, and others in the area.

Technical Leadership:

• Assist and support in the creation, auditing, and oversight of Strategic's technical policies and procedures related to civil design, road engineering, and terrain stability.

• Support cross-regionally as needed with technical skills as a subject matter expert or professional resource on project, time, or cost analysis.

• Utilize technical skills to support project bids and proposals for timelines, quality, costs, and requirements.

Training:

• Participate in the training and mentorship of coworkers, sharing work experience and improving their technical skills.

• Be part of a committee to review Strategic's training policies, procedures, SOJTs, and training content yearly and recommend required changes.

Functionally Reports to: Regional Manager

Role Requirements

General Requirements:

• Knowledge and experience in a natural resource sector

• The ability to have an entrepreneurial drive and mindset while balancing that within a collaborative organization

• An effective communicator

• Ability to travel within the Strategic regions for work as required

• Participate in camp shifts as required

• Attend and participate in industry conferences, workshops, trade shows as required

• Maintain professional image at work and within the company

• Maintain personal accountability for content and quality of work for self and team

• Work in adverse weather conditions and steep, brushy terrain as required.

• Travel safely by truck, boat, ATV, float plane, and helicopter without issue.

• Class 5 driver's license required

Qualifications:

• Professional designation in British Columbia required: P.Eng., RPF, or CET (or eligibility for registration)

• Demonstrated experience in road design, including use of RoadEng or equivalent road engineering software

• Experience completing terrain stability assessments (TSAs)

• Experience preparing bridge site plans

• A track record of practical, constructable design work suited to forestry and resource access contexts

• Project management experience would be an asset

Experience:

• 10+ years experience in resource development, civil construction, infrastructure development or related field,

• Experience with RoadEng or equivalent road design software

• Experience in terrain stability assessments and bridge site plans is an asset

• Geotechnical investigations, hazard assessments, and foundation design is an asset

• Project management and leadership experience
