About this role

Position Summary

The Recreation Programs and Events Assistant will assist the Community Recreation Coordinator and Director of Recreation, Arts and Culture with planning and delivering programs and special events. Additional duties will include assisting and supporting the Recreation Arts and Culture team with special projects, programs, events and tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist the Community Recreation Coordinator with the implementation of a variety of community initiatives, programs and special corporate events and where required, organize and lead activities.

• Visit and evaluate current programs, deliver supplies, survey participants and make recommendations on future program and activities.

• Promote and stimulate program participation, providing guidance and role modeling to instructors and Monitor programs, services and activities to ensure safety of participants, quality in programs. Collect and submit completed program/activity reports.

• Lead and instruct programs solely or in collaboration with partners.

• Supervise children and youth during activities, field trips, outings and special events ensuring their health and safety is of utmost importance.

• Conduct equipment inventory on a recurring basis and recommend replacement of damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secure supplies, equipment for programs.

• Deliver high quality customer service to Centennial Centre users by providing general assistance and guidance as needed.

• Assist with special projects and initiatives as needed.

Education, Skills and Experience

• College diploma/certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution/college in Recreation/ and/or Leisure Studies/ Gerontology / and/or related fields.

• Standard First Aid & CPR, High Five certification recommended

• Previous experience with events is an asset

• Minimum of one year experience working with youth

• Proficiency in a computerized environment, operating systems, database software, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

• Ability to work in a team environment

• Outstanding customer service skills

• Excellent leadership, problem solving, customer service and multi-tasking skills

• Requires a flexible work schedule (attending evening and/or weekend programs, meetings and events)

• Ability to work under pressure and to organize work to meet firm deadlines

• Valid G license with a clean drivers abstract satisfactory to the corporation (Use of own vehicle may be required.

• Vulnerable Sector (Criminal) Record Check: The successful candidate must be prepared to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to being employed by the Town of Gravenhurst.

This is a 0-10 hour per week, non-union position. This is an existing vacancy.
