About the Role

We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking dedicated and caring Teacher’s Assistants to support classroom teachers in delivering high-quality, culturally responsive education. This role plays an important part in creating a positive learning environment and supporting student success.

The Teacher’s Assistant provides instructional support, assists with classroom management, and works directly with students to enhance their learning experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in preparing lesson materials and classroom activities

• Support individual students and small groups with learning activities

• Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers

• Assist with classroom administrative tasks such as grading and record-keeping

• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other school activities

• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support educational programming

• Participate in professional development opportunities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in education or related field is preferred

• Experience working with children in an educational setting is an asset

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students

• Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team

• Creativity and flexibility in supporting student learning

Working Conditions

• Primarily classroom-based environment

• Occasional outdoor supervision and school activities

• Standard school hours, with occasional after-school meetings or events

• Physical activity may include standing for extended periods and assisting with student needs

• Minimal travel required, primarily for school-related events within the community
