Job Description
The Molding Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance activities within the molding operation to ensure maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and efficiency. This role oversees preventive and corrective maintenance for molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and tooling while driving continuous improvement, cost control, and safety compliance. The position partners cross-functionally to support production goals, product quality, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment & Tooling Maintenance
Oversee maintenance of injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment (e.g., robots, dryers, chillers).Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs.Ensure rapid response and resolution of equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime. Reliability & Continuous Improvement
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions for recurring failures.Drive reliability improvement initiatives using Six Sigma methodology.Analyze maintenance and downtime data to improve asset performance. Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians and toolroom personnel.Establish performance expectations and ensure accountability.Coordinate training programs to enhance technical skills and safety awareness. Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.Lead safety initiatives, risk assessments, and incident investigations.Promote a strong safety culture across the maintenance team. Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
Develop maintenance schedules aligned with production requirements.Plan and execute plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities. Cost Management
Manage maintenance budgets, including labor, spare parts, and external services.Optimize spare parts inventory and reduce maintenance-related costs.Evaluate cost-effective solutions without compromising reliability or quality. Tooling Management
Oversee mold maintenance, repair, and refurbishment programs.Ensure proper mold handling, storage, and documentation.Support mold trials, validation, and engineering change implementation. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to meet operational targets.Support new product introductions (NPI) and process transfers.Align maintenance strategies with organizational goals. Performance Monitoring
Drive accountability through data-driven decision-making.Capital Projects & Continuous ImprovementLead or support equipment upgrades, automation, and facility improvements.Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and reliability. Minimum requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field + 4 years years experience in med device industry ORMaster's Degree + 3 years of experience in med device industry ORPh.D. + no experience RequiredScientific Molding Certification preferredSix Sigma Green Belt certification preferred Additional Skills:
Proven expertise in usage of MS Office Suite including MS Project; CAD experience preferred (if applicable)Strong documentation, communication (e.g., written and verbal) and interpersonal relationship skills including consultative and relationship management skillsBasic (UT: Good) understanding of statistical techniquesPrevious experience working with lab/industrial equipment required (if applicable)Substantial understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to EngineeringStrong problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skillsSubstantial understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned workGood leadership skills and ability to influence changeKnowledge of and adherence to Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturingKnowledge of applicable FDA regulations for medical device industryStrict attention to detailAbility to interact professionally with all organizational levelsAbility to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environmentWork is performed independently and reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting key objectivesParticipates in determining objectives of assignment; plans schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectivesActs as a resource for colleagues with less experienceContributes to the completion of significant organizational projects and goals; Input on overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization is given serious considerationFailure to conclude their piece of a project would have impact causing schedule delay and/or addition of resourcesMust be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams and key contact representing the organization on contracts or projectsAbility to interact with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizationsDevelops solutions to a variety of complex problemsIdentifies opportunities for process improvementsAccountable to adhere to applicable Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality System requirements to ensure our products and services consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements.Adhere to all EHS rules and requirements and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/controlEnsure proper handling, storage and disposal of all waste generated in the facility according to applicable laws within the waste management program (RCRA).
