POSITION DESCRIPTION:
• Reconcile all cash account to bank statements and accounting records
• Capable of processing payroll as necessary and assist the payroll clerk with all functions
• Process quarterly and annual payroll reports; including 941 and W-2s
• Maintain the records of the lunch program. Approve claims, verify student enrollments, verify bank records, and onsite audit
• Responsible for reviewing and approving all free and reduced food service applications
• Review and submit information for the Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Grant claim
• Manage all Preschool tuition billing and accounts receivable functions
• Maintain records and balance activity for the Cumberland School Department’s flexible spending account
• Quarterly RI Medicaid Administrative Activity Claim
• Quarterly TIAA/CREF reimbursement filing at RIDE
• Retirement reconciliation from payroll processing to payments submitted to ERSRI
• Assist with fiscal year end General Ledger and Payroll database rollover
• Assist Finance Director in Fixed Asset Inventories, both maintain fixed asset ledger, as well as onsite inspections
• Work with Purchasing, Accounts payable, Payroll and Human Resources to resolve issues that impact the accounting function
• Assists with the annual year-end audit process and provides the outside auditing firm with documentation, reports, and analyses as required
• Monitors activity to ensure account codes are in compliance with the state mandated uniform chart of accounts (UCOA)
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Director and/or Superintendent of Schools
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Required
• Professional financial position that requires a thorough knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), computerized accounting systems and the application of the general ledger as they apply to fund accounting in a non-profit environment
• Working knowledge of budget development, accounting and reporting expenditures of all federal, state and local awards
• Proven experience in maintaining confidentiality
• Proven experience in organizational and leaderships skills with an emphasis to detail, consistency, and accuracy
• Ability to develop policy documents and procedure manuals
• Skilled in working with complex data, utilizing formulas, functions and import tools.
• Proven experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing with governmental, state and local agencies and vendors
• Proven experience in decision making using independent judgment and initiative to resolve problems in a timely manner
