Glassboro Public Schools is accepting applications for a Marching Band Percussion Instructor at Glassboro High School. This is a part-time, supplemental position. The marching band percussion instructor will work with the Director or Bands, instructional staff members and students to ensure a positive experience for students and successful public performances. These efforts will be accomplished through summer instruction (prior to the start of the school year), after-school rehearsals, weekend events and performance events. The marching band percussion instructor shall enforce and adhere to the policies, rules and guidelines of Glassboro Public Schools and the band program to which they are associated. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience performing with College Marching Band, Drum Corps, Percussion Ensemble or Comparable Ensembles
• Must be experienced working with marching bands and percussion ensembles.
• Experience in the various sub groups of percussion instruments.
• Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various percussion units
• Demonstrated management and leadership skills
• Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions
• Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion
• Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks associated with the duties and responsibilities listed below.
• Certified music teacher, current college music education major or demonstrate a strong applicable background preferred but not required
REPORTS TO: High School Marching Band Director, Athletic Director and Building Principal DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend summer band rehearsals and Ban Camp. Dates and time TBD by the Director of Bands
• Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season
• Attend all competitions, home football games and other public appearances as needed by the Director of Bands
• Work with the head band director, drill writers, and show designers to block out routines, choreograph visual elements, and teach show music and cadences
• Attend all band camps, scheduled rehearsals, football games, and weekend marching band competitions
• Instruct members in fundamental percussion techniques; both battery and front ensemble
• Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair and acquisition recommendations ensuring that the percussion students are properly equipped for rehearsals and performances
• Recruit potential percussion members, retain current students, and foster a positive, disciplined team culture
• Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Director of Bands prepare students for home games, competitions and public appearances
• Follow all policies of Glassboro Public Schools and the band program to which they are associated
