Position Title: School Van Driver Department: District Reports to: Director of Transportation Approved by: Transportation Director and Superintendent of Schools Reviewed: February 14, 2024 The Transportation Garage is located at 2 A Industrial Drive, Berwick, ME 03901. MSAD #35/RSU #35 district provides transportation for students in Eliot, South Berwick and depending on position may include other driving areas dependent on student transportation needs. POSITION SUMMARY: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Holds a valid driver's license for operation of the class vehicle and has at least one year's experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator: Is at least 21 years of age and has held a driver's license for at least one year; DOT Medical Card Annual Physical; Safety and driver training provided by the district; and Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check certificate eligibility required Please reference: https://legislature.maine.gov/statutes/29-A/title29-Asec2303.html for full details. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities outlined below are representative and do not encompass or define all tasks that may be required by this position.

• Obeys all traffic laws.

• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses/vans.

• Maintains discipline when students are on bus/van.

• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.

• Keeps assigned bus/van clean.

• Keeps to assigned schedule.

• Checks bus and/or van before each operation for mechanical defects.

• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.

• Discharges students only at authorized stops.

• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.

• Transports only authorized students.

• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.

• Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus/van.
