About this role
Purpose Statement: The job of Cook IV is done for the purpose/s of overseeing site operations, meeting the mandated nutritional needs of students and ensuring availability of items; operating computerized lunch program; and providing food services for programs and events outside of the normal school food program (snack bar, Headstart, after school activities, staff meetings, etc.).
This job reports to the Nutrition Director Essential Functions
• Directs assigned personnel, student workers and/or volunteers for the purpose of guiding the individuals in performing their functions in a safe and efficient
• Estimates food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing
• Implements menu plans for the purpose of meeting students' mandated daily nutritional
• Orders, stocks and inventories food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and maintaining adequate quantities and security of
• Receives incoming deliveries and documentation for the purpose of maintaining accurate information and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
• Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health standards.
• Maintains food service equipment for the purpose of maintaining safe operating
• Monitors kitchen and cafeteria areas for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary working
• Operates computerized lunch system (e.g. files, records, lunch cards, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for
• Oversees site operations for the purpose of providing safe and efficient food services at the assigned site/s in compliance with mandated nutritional requirements and health
• Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions of job.
• Performs functions as required of another position within area of responsibility for the purpose of providing overall coverage of food service
• Prepares documentation (e.g. menu production records, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements.
• Provides food service for programs and events outside of the regular program (e.g. snack bar, Headstart, after school activities, staff meetings, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the food service needs of those
• Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals.
• Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to upgrade skills as needed in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; operating equipment used in food service; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes health standards and hazards; quantity cooking; and safety practices and procedures ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 10% walking, and 90% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.
