About this role
Support the upkeep of school buildings and grounds by performing light construction, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance. Work includes interior and exterior tasks across multiple trades with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and responsiveness to work orders.
Key Responsibilities Carpentry & Finishes ¦ Construct, install, and repair cabinets, doors, windows, screens, shades/blinds, furniture, seating, and laminate components not available commercially. ¦ Install door hardware (closers, hinges, stops, handles); perform minor glazing. ¦ Tape and finish drywall; patch, sand, prime, and prep walls/surfaces to a smooth, finished stage. ¦ Perform minor painting and touch-ups. Flooring & Surface Work ¦ Lay tile, linoleum, laminates, epoxies, and other floor/surface coverings. ¦ Patch/repair or replace damaged flooring; fabricate forms, cut materials, and adhere coverings to varied shapes/surfaces. ¦ Install countertops and other surface coverings. Mechanical & Building Systems (support/minor repairs) ¦ Perform minor plumbing, minor electrical, and minor HVAC repairs. ¦ Provide support for boiler and HVAC maintenance as directed. ¦ Perform some appliance repair. Grounds & Exterior ¦ Perform grounds care, mowing, and string trimming; assist with landscaping and cleanup of school grounds. ¦ Assist with snow removal and emergency after-hours work as needed. Operations, Safety & Compliance ¦ Maintain a safe work environment and participate in required safety trainings. ¦ Help safeguard school property and prevent premature deterioration of buildings, grounds, and equipment. ¦ Complete work-order requests and general property maintenance in a timely manner. ¦ Use and maintain typical hand/power tools, vehicles/trailers, light-duty grounds equipment, and common construction/repair tools. ¦ Follow all district policies and procedures.
Work Conditions ¦ Interior and exterior work in varying weather conditions. ¦ Tasks may require working on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts. Qualifications ¦ High school diploma or GED preferred. ¦ Experience in buildings & grounds preferred. ¦ Background in one or more trades: general carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, flooring, painting, or related. ¦ Ability to safely operate hand/power tools and light grounds equipment. ¦ Reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.
