ABOUT THE ROLE: Lakeside Middle School is seeking a proactive, empathetic, and organized Student Behavior Support Assistant to join our team. This role serves as a key resource in fostering a positive school climate by providing immediate, structured alternatives to out-of-school exclusion and keeping students safely and productively in the learning environment. Working primarily to support students—including students receiving special education services—the Assistant will focus on de-escalation, restorative practices, early attendance intervention, and structured academic and behavioral support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: De-Escalation & Restorative Reflection: Facilitate structured reflection processes for students experiencing classroom behavioral disruptions. Help students identify behavioral triggers, evaluate who was impacted, and establish concrete action plans for moving forward.

Family Collaboration & Behavioral Tracking: Copy and send completed reflection forms to families, maintain internal file tracking, and proactively flag behavioral patterns for early counseling or administrative referrals.

In-School Support & Transition Planning: Manage a dedicated, supportive in-school alternative space for full-day interventions. Ensure continuous academic support on classroom work, facilitate behavioral planning, coordinate counselor check-ins, and create concrete re-entry plans for class return.

Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) Mentorship: Serve as a trusted adult on campus using evidence-based CICO strategies to provide daily positive reinforcement, behavioral goal setting, and progress monitoring. Early

Attendance & Tardy Management: Run morning attendance reports via PowerSchool and issue timely family notifications via ParentSquare within the first 15 minutes of the school day to intercept chronic attendance issues early.

Structured Detention Support: Oversee lunch and recess detentions, ensuring these times are utilized constructively to reset student behavior.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of student instruction and management practices, procedures and techniques; general knowledge of school system rules and procedures for classroom, halls, cafeteria, library and transportation; general knowledge of subject areas in class levels to which assigned; ability to guide, direct, teach, and control students; ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, principals and other school personnel; ability to type basic records; ability to operate audio-visual equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including clerical training.

EVALUATION: Will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness to carry out the responsibilities as outlined.
