POSITION: Building Substitute REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Building Principal or Designee EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, 183 Days, Master Agreement, FLSA Exempt QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Ohio Substitute Teaching License or appropriate Ohio teaching license required. • Bachelor's degree (or qualifications required by the Ohio Department of Education for substitute licensure). • Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks. • Strong classroom management and communication skills. • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families. • Flexibility and willingness to teach a variety of subjects and grade levels. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Building Substitute provides daily instructional support by covering classroom assignments and assisting with school operations as needed throughout Preble Shawnee High School. This position serves as an on-site substitute teacher who is assigned to classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher and may provide additional instructional, supervisory, or student support services based on the daily needs of the building. The Building Substitute is responsible for implementing lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment, and ensuring continuity of instruction. The position requires flexibility to work across multiple subject areas, grade levels, and classroom settings while demonstrating professionalism, effective classroom management, and adherence to district policies and procedures. The Building Substitute collaborates with administrators, teachers, and support staff to promote a positive educational environment and support student learning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher using lesson plans provided. • Follow school policies, procedures, and expectations regarding student behavior and attendance. • Take attendance and complete required substitute documentation. • Adapt to different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings throughout the school day. • Supervise students during class transitions, study halls, lunch, or other assigned duties as needed. • Communicate professionally with administrators, teachers, and support staff. • Assist with additional school-related tasks when classroom coverage is not needed. • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and flexibility in all assignments.
