POSITION REPORTS TO: Director / Supervisor of Special Education or Principal PAY GRADE: T-1
FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 182 Days
• SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE
Designs and implements counseling services which assist students in benefiting from special education (SNC I) and/or general curriculum (SNC II). III. MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Master's degree. Valid LA certification in guidance and counseling and/or Social Work (ancillary certificate). Relevant school experience or experience with school-aged clients. Additional criteria as the Board may require.
• DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides individual or group counseling services for students with disabilities (SNC I) or general education students (SNC II) as needed or upon referral.
• Holds conferences with teachers and/or other school personnel regarding students' progress and needs.
• Maintains IEP/records/logs regarding counseling activities.
• Schedules counseling sessions as necessary in accordance with student's IEP/Plan or on an emergency basis upon referral by appropriate school personnel.
• Provides interventions aimed at changing patterns of inappropriate behavior that result in school suspensions.
• Refers students to the proper resources for support services as necessary (e.g. SBLC, Mental Health, Health Clinic, school nurse, etc.)
• Plans and conducts program evaluations for the counseling services.
• Provides parent training aimed at developing continuity of behavioral expectations between school and home.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities.
• Provides courteous and prompt services to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is ensured.
• Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
• Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
• Performs other services as required.
Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

• Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
• Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
• Supervision of students in the classroom
• Supervision of the students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
• Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up when assigned
• Non-instructional Components
• Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
• Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
• Attend training sessions
• Attend IEP meetings
• Attend parent-teacher conferences
• Attend back-to-school and open-house events
• Attend graduation
• Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
• Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request
• Extracurricular Activities
• Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
• Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
