Parent and Family Engagement Specialist Title: Parent and Family Engagement Specialist Qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or business administration or a related field of study and a valid teaching license. Report To: Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, and/or the Superintendent's designee Job Goal: To provide leadership in parental involvement and public relations activities, which includes, informing parents and the community of district and school events. Mission and Goals:
• Works with the Superintendent and those whom he/she supervises to articulate and promote the school system's vision of learning and teaching.
• Develops goals and objectives, programs, and operations that are consistent with school system's vision, mission, and goals.
• Ensures that unit and program plans are consistent with the system's plan.
• Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate completion of assigned tasks.
• Communicates high expectations of students, staff, and parents/guardians.
Management of Educational Resources:
• Administers the finances and resources of the district with sound fiscal management and educational practices.
• Achieves maximum results for available resources and money spent.
• Understands and utilizes available technology of the district with focus on parental involvement achievement and public relations activities.
Parental Involvement:
• Coordinates the planning and implementation of district-wide parental involvement and awareness activities.
• Assists in monitoring parental involvement at the school level.
• Coordinates the selection of the district-wide Parent of the Year.
• Serves as liaison between parents and school personnel.
• Plans and provides activities related to parent involvement that would enhance the school's or district's climate.
• Cooperates with administrators in implementing the parent involvement program according to state and federal guidelines.
• Conducts workshops and presentations for parents and professionals on topics related to family engagement.
• Updates parent handouts pertaining to family engagement information and referral sources and distributes to all other staff members, as appropriate, and community stakeholders.
• Works with parents and teachers in improving the achievement level of students by assisting parents and volunteers in learning activities.
• Works to ensure homeless children and families' needs are identified and steps are taken to meet those needs through school resources and community agencies.
• Supports and works with social workers, counselors, and community agencies that can contribute resources to assist families as needed.
• Provides support to ensure that school staff is trained on value of parental involvement.
• Ensures that parents are involved in the development of parent involvement policy, plan, and compacts.
• Coordinates with school principals and staff to coordinate and plan family activities.
• Assumes classroom duties (homebound services).
• Designs and implements the student handbook that is utilized by the district.
• Creates and implements a district level summer reading camp.
• Creates and implements a Parent and Family Engagement Plan for each school and the district level.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, and/or the Superintendent's designee.
Terms of Employment: Ten, eleven, or twelve months per year. Salary and work year will be established by the Board. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
