About this role
We are seeking a caring, patient and committed person to join us at Ferndale Primary School. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator to support a child with cognition, learning, communication and interaction needs. An Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) is in place. Support is required both in the classroom and at break/lunch times.
This position is 30.42 hours a week, Monday - Thursday 8.25am - 3.30pm (30 minutes lunch), Friday 8.20am - 1.00pm (30 minutes lunch). Good communication skills and the ability to use positive behaviour management strategies are essential. An understanding of intensive interaction (engaging with the child while playing and modelling how to play and interact with peers) is desirable but not essential.
You will need to be able to plan, deliver and monitor learning to meet the needs of the child’s EHCP as well as adapting materials to support the child’s learning and development. You will also need the following attributes:
A variety of communication skills to respond to the needs of the child
An ability to build positive working relationships with parents and carers
Empathy and understanding of a child’s individual learning abilities
Patience and a good sense of humour
Willingness to liaise and work with outside agencies such as Speech and Language therapists.
