Job summary
This post is for a Consultant Anaesthetist / Intensivist to work on the Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering anaesthesia and critical care medicine sessions with on-call commitments covering critical care only.
The post runs over a 6 week cycle with one dedicated ITU week (3 week days plusweekend) followed by 5 weeks of anaesthetics (2 days per week) with occasional adhoc ITU cover for sickness/leave etc.
Monthly consultant meetings and monthly M&M meetings are included in the job plan.There are 12 ITU Consultants delivering daytime and nighttime cover for two critical care units with a total of 18 Level 2 / 3 beds.The job will be 10 Programme Activities (PA). This will include 1.0 core SPA for CPD.A job planning review will take place within the first three months. Additional PAs maybe available by agreement between the successful candidate and the department.

Some roles and responsibilities will change depending on the experience and interests of the appointee. A job plan must be agreed between the successful appointee and clinical lead in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Terms and Conditions - Consultants (England) 2003. The successful candidate would be expected to :
. Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.. Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees, teaching ofother junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.. Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.. Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement. Participate in service development and policy review.. Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisaland revalidation.

Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students including an understanding of recent changes in the training of ICU Doctors
Desirable
Possession of ATLS Possession of ALS/EPLS/APLS certificates. Instructor ALS/ EPLS/APLS certificates Course in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. Training the Trainers course. 6 months paediatric anaesthesia experience
