Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our welcoming and dedicated Blood Sciences team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We welcome a candidate who is passionate about making a significant impact in Haematology.
As a senior Biomedical Scientist, you will be working with new, state-of-the-art analysers including Abbott Alinity HQ Haematology analysers, Scopio digital morphology, Stago StarMax2 Haemostasis analysers, Alifax ESR Technology, and BioRad IH1000 Blood Grouping analysers. You will also get the opportunity to work with a high level of pre and post analytical automation.
You will have responsibility for designated sections of diagnostic and support services, ensuring their effective organisation and operation. This will include providing leadership and direction to staff within these sections and ensuring that all procedures, protocols, and quality standards are adhered to at all times.
A minimum of four years' post-registration experience within a Haematology laboratory is required. Completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma is essential.

Main duties of the job
Maintain documentation and electronic records in compliance with Trust standards,promoting adherence to policies and procedures among staff. Identify and report clinical and non-clinical risks, ensuring appropriate actions are takenaccording to the Trust's risk management policy. Plan and prioritize the scientific workload daily, providing a comprehensive laboratoryservice to patients and staff. Ensure understanding and implementation of standard operational and health and safetypolicies by all staff. Oversee the maintenance, quality control, and record keeping of laboratory instrumentsand equipment. Adapt to new methodologies and practices as needed, while actively participating inquality assurance and audits. Generate and update standard operating procedures, validate and authorise reports inaccordance with local policies. Assist in the development of new techniques and provide scientific advice as a resourceinternally and externally. Stay informed of current developments in relevant areas of responsibility. Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of equipment when workingautonomously.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
