Job summary
We have an opportunity for two 0.98 WTE permanent posts at B5 within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Department. Each post would be for 37 hrs per week and part time/job share will be considered. We would like you to join us and depending on your skills, we have available sessions into our in-patient and out-patient services, across South Tyneside and Sunderland.
You will join our well-established Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) service and will work mainly in acute and / or out-patient settings. You will be a key part of our service and will have opportunity to develop your skills in working with people with a wide range of speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties. As a team we work together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and will be encouraged to develop your clinical skills and may also be involved in instrumental assessment clinics. You will be keen to drive services forward as we change and develop. You will align to our vision and values which include using research and innovation to improve patient care.
Main duties of the job
The adult team provides a SALT service across South Tyneside and Sunderland.
You will:
demonstrate experience as a SLT student in working with adults with a range of speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties have excellent prioritisation, communication and team working skills have excellent training and presentation skills be keen to work within a large, forward-thinking department which is embedded in a successful Therapy Services Directorate have a proactive and flexible approach to problem solving and caseload management to ensure we take the service forward to support care across acute and community settings be able to meet the travel requirements of this post.

To provide speech and language therapy service to adults (inpatients, outpatients and community home visits) with a wide range of acquired swallowing and communication disorders.
To provide speech and language therapy service for adults with speech, language, voice communication and swallowing needs.
Work into the hospital, clinics, patient homes, care home and other community settings.
Person Specification
Physical Skills Essential
Ability to travel to/work at various sites across the Trust (possibly on a daily/short notice basis). Competent computer skills.
Desirable
Car driver/owner.
Qualifications Essential
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy/Pathology or equivalent. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Desirable
RCSLT Membership.
Experience Essential
Satisfactory range of undergraduate clinical experience. Ability to recognise the limits of own experience and how/when to seek advice.
Desirable
Wide, varied range of undergraduate and/or graduate clinical experience.
Skills and Knowledge Essential
Excellent level of interpersonal and communication skills enabling effective working relationships. Administrative skills including record keeping, collecting statistics/audit information. Effective time management skills. Ability to manage own caseload, including prioritisation. Ability to work effectively both alone and as a team member.
