About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an organised and proactive Cancer Pathway Manager for Oncology to manage and support our administrative team within the Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). You will oversee the smooth running of MDT meetings, the coordination of patient pathways, and provide cover for admin roles when needed, including taking minutes and tracking actions.

The Thoracic Division within Royal Papworth Hospital contains 6 specialities, RSSC, CCLI, PVDU, Oncology, ILD. Divisional teams work hard to ensure new members receive a warm welcome encouraging a positive and supportive culture within the department.

The postholder will provide compassionate and supportive leadership to the oncology MDT team, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that empowers the team to deliver high quality patient care. The Cancer Pathway Manager plays a pivotal role within an essential team, managing and developing processes that ultimately are responsible in keeping patients safe.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and support the Oncology MDT team, ensuring efficient workflow supporting and inspiring team members to develop in their careers.

Oversee & Lead MDT Coordinators in efficient running of MDT meetings, including accurate minute-taking and follow-up on actions.

Provide cover for admin roles as required to maintain service continuity.

Work closely with clinical teams to support the delivery of high-quality patient care ensuring patients are monitored and moved along their treatment pathways as efficiently as possible supporting the Oncology Service Manager with the Patient tracker lists (PTL) including deputising PTL meetings where required.

Support Oncology Service Manager with projects aligned with the organisation's strategic goals.

Identify and implement improvements to administrative processes including collection and presentation of data as required.

Be a point of contact for Cancer Waiting Times guidance.

Have oversight of clinic and diagnostic capacity to support Oncology Service Manager by escalating concerns raised by MDT co-ordinators, seeking to resolve issues where possible.

Qualifications Essential

Graduate level Management qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable

HR Qualification e.g. CIPD or equivalent

Experience Essential

Evidence of continued learning and development Experience in line management, or supervision or staff, including dealing with recruitment of staff and performance and disciplinary issues To be proficient in Microsoft Office programmes including Word, Excel and Outlook Experience of producing reports from databases Previous experience of using complex medical terminology Knowledge of cancer data sets and MDT processes Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate complex and sensitive issues Excellent attention to detail Ability to problem solve complex departmental challenges Ability to analyse and interpret complex data from a variety of sources Flexible approach to working hours in line with service requirements (including the ability to work out of hours/at weekends if required)
