Job summary
Ward based duties to include routine review of patients, progressing care, prescribing, requesting and evaluating relevant tests, liaising with all medical and allied health professionals. The post-holder will have a Consultant Clinical Supervisor and encouraged to follow the training curriculum, including participation in an appraisal. There will also be opportunities to attend clinics, undertake relevant procedures.
Main duties of the job
There are educational opportunities throughout the working week including clinical governance, frailty and liaison work.
Other opportunities include participating in departmental mortality and morbidity meetings, teaching, audits or quality improvement projects with support and supervision.
The role will be based on Ward A518, working Monday to Friday with no on call commitments. There is a consultant ward round once a week and nominated consultant contact every day in case of issues. The role of the clinical fellow on A518 is to ensure daily documentation of board round discussions with the nursing staff and MDT, highlighting key actions and plan for the day. Review all new, sick and complex patients daily, highlighting main issues, ongoing daily reviews as needed if patient is unstable with escalation to senior registrar. To support the MDT with discharge, family and best interest meetings. To be proactive at preparing the discharge summary and TTO's to improve flow.
The post includes half a day per week for audit/quality improvement project, usually a Tuesday or Wednesday. The successful candidate will provide cross cover with the clinical fellow on A413 whilst they undertake their QIP afternoon and vice versa.
