About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced General Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive practice team. This is an excellent opportunity for a GP with a minimum of 2 years' post-CCT experience who is looking for a part-time role comprising 4 sessions across Thursday and Friday.

The successful candidate will participate in our duty doctor rota, covering alternate Fridays, and will work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as a named list-holding GP, providing high-quality, patient-centred care to our practice population across 4 sessions per week (Thursday and Friday).

Key responsibilities will include:

Undertaking face-to-face, telephone and online consultations in line with current clinical best practice.Maintaining responsibility for a personal patient list and delivering continuity of care where possible.Reviewing, processing and actioning clinical correspondence, pathology results, investigations and other workflow tasks in a timely and safe manner.Managing associated administrative duties arising from consultations and ongoing patient care.Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, paramedics and administrative colleagues.Participating in the practice duty doctor rota, providing duty GP cover on alternate Fridays.Contributing to practice meetings, quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.Supporting the delivery of contractual and quality requirements within general practice.We utilise EMIS Web as our clinical system; therefore, previous experience using EMIS is desirable, although training can be provided.

The practice is committed to delivering safe and sustainable workloads and follows current BMA guidance of a maximum of 25 patient contacts per session/day, supporting clinicians to provide high-quality care while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

We are a well-established GP practice serving approximately 10,500 patients across two sites. Our multidisciplinary team includes three GP Partners, three Salaried GPs, a Nursing Team, Clinical Pharmacists and a Physician Associate, all working together to deliver high-quality patient care.

Providing routine GP consultations and clinical assessment of patients.Managing a personal patient list and supporting continuity of care.Undertaking duty doctor responsibilities on alternate Fridays, including the management of urgent same-day clinical demand.Reviewing and actioning pathology results, hospital correspondence, workflow tasks and investigation reports.Processing prescriptions and medication queries.Managing referrals and associated clinical documentation.Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous patient records.Contributing to safeguarding, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.Participating in practice and multidisciplinary team meetings.We use EMIS Web, and previous experience with the system is desirable.

The practice is committed to safe and sustainable workloads and follows current BMA safe working guidance. Clinical sessions are structured to support approximately 25 patient contacts per day, with protected time for administration and management of clinical workflow.

The post holder will work closely with GP Partners, Salaried GPs, the Nursing Team, Clinical Pharmacists and the Physician Associate to deliver safe, effective and responsive primary care services.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Qualifications GMC registered medical practitioner with a licence to practise. Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice or equivalent. Minimum 2 years' post-CCT experience in UK General Practice.

Desirable

Experience using EMIS Web. Experience as a GP Trainer, Educational Supervisor or involvement in GP education. Interest in quality improvement, service development or digital transformation within primary care. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including Pharmacists, Physician Associates and Nursing Teams. Understanding of and interest in emerging technologies and innovative ways of working within General Practice.
