Job summary

Join Winchester City PCN's Enhanced Access team and make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of patients across Winchester.

We are looking for a caring, motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to support the delivery of NHS Health Checks during our evening and Saturday clinics. This is a rewarding opportunity to help identify health risks early, support healthier lifestyles, and contribute to improving long-term patient outcomes within your local community.

Whether you are an experienced HCA or have relevant healthcare, care, wellbeing, or patient-facing experience, we would love to hear from you. We value enthusiasm, professionalism, and excellent communication skills just as highly as technical experience. Phlebotomy skills are desirable but not essential.

Working as part of a friendly and supportive Primary Care Network team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, gain valuable primary care experience, and work in a well-organised service focused on preventative healthcare.

Regular paid shifts are available on weekday evenings (17:30-20:30) and Saturdays (09:00-17:00), with permanent contracted hours preferred and flexible patterns available.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Enhanced Access team, you will support the delivery of NHS Health Checks and preventative healthcare clinics for patients across Winchester.

Your duties will include undertaking clinical observations, carrying out phlebotomy where trained, engaging with patients, promoting healthy lifestyles, and accurately recording information on clinical systems.

You will work independently within a structured clinic environment while being supported by a friendly and experienced Primary Care Network team.

The role offers the opportunity to build relationships with patients, contribute to improved health outcomes, and play a key part in delivering accessible healthcare outside of normal GP opening hours.

Job SummaryThe postholder will support the delivery of NHS Health Checks and other preventative healthcare services across Winchester City PCN's Enhanced Access Service. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Healthcare Assistant will follow the Ardens NHS Health Check template to undertake clinical observations, support patient assessments, perform phlebotomy where trained, promote healthy lifestyles, and ensure accurate clinical record keeping.

The role requires a professional, patient-centred approach and the ability to work independently within a structured clinic environment while maintaining high standards of care and patient experience.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesDeliver NHS Health Check appointments in accordance with local and national guidance.Undertake clinical observations including blood pressure, height, weight, BMI and other measurements as required.Perform phlebotomy procedures where appropriately trained and competent.Support patients to understand their health risks and encourage positive lifestyle changes.Accurately record consultations, observations and test results using clinical systems (EMIS, ICE)Ensure patient information is handled confidentially and in accordance with information governance requirements.Prepare and organise clinic rooms, equipment and supplies.Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.Escalate clinical concerns appropriately in line with local protocols.Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Primary Care Network and Enhanced Access Service.Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, safe and effective service for patients.Professional ResponsibilitiesMaintain professional standards and work within the scope of competence.Participate in mandatory training and continuing professional development.Follow all organisational policies, procedures and clinical protocols.Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.Support a culture of excellent patient care, continuous improvement and teamwork.Additional InformationPhlebotomy experience is highly desirable but not essential. Qualifications Essential

Good standard of general education, including English and Mathematics (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent, or equivalent experience)

Qualified in Phlebotomy NHS Health Check training under Hampshire County Council Care Certificate or relevant healthcare qualification
