About this role

Job summary

We are pleased to be looking for a clinical psychologist to join our acute mental health team on our psychiatric intensive care ward here in Sheffield. The role is an interesting and exciting opportunity to develop clinical, leadership and service development skills.

The post will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with patients with acute mental health needs, and their families. The team is well-established, supportive. You will work as part of an MDT including CAPs to deliver patient care within an integrated model and work closely with the other acute wards to support the patient journey.

The Trust has a strong focus on human rights and restriction reduction and you will be supported to leader in these areas.

The post will provide opportunities to take a lead in developing an evidence-based psychological service alongside a diverse acute psychology team. We have close links with Sheffield University for individuals interested in maintaining research and teaching. The post is 8a, but we would welcome applicants at B7 who would like to develop their clinical skills within a supportive team.

Main duties of the job

To provide a qualified highly specialist clinical psychology service to service users of our psychiatric intensive care unit.

You will work with a range of patients, and provide highly specialist psychological assessment, therapy and consultation on service users' psychological care to psychologist colleagues, non-psychologist colleagues and carers.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to less experienced practitioner psychologists, therapists, assistant(s), trainee(s) or other professionals. The postholder is responsible for the co-ordination and organisation of the work of other psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

The post will require

Qualification as a practitioner psychologist and registration with the HCPC

Experience of working with acute mental health difficulties

A strong interest in managing risk in line with least restrictive principles

Ability to work as part of a team around the patient and their family.

Ability to care plan with teams to best support patients on the ward.
