About this role

• Remains current in practice in the field of ultrasonic technology by reading and attending meetings, conferences and symposia, as well as, visiting areas where special procedures are taught.

• Is able to work independently and communicates effectively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

• Is able to capture clear precise ultrasound images inclusive of all required anatomy.

• Understands the infection control issues associated with practice.

• Knowledgeable of Joint Commission standards and other regulatory bodies expectations.

• Maintains a professional demeanor at all times.

• Performs ultrasound studies (echoencephalography, echocardiography, abdominal, retroperitoneal, obstetrics/gynecology and doppler).

• Operates complex ultrasound equipment pertinent to department needs (A-mode, B-mode, doppler, real-time, all related recording systems, etc...).

• Utilizes ancillary devices (video recorders) to obtain permanent record of examination. Selects proper transducer frequency and diameter for performance of examination.

• Recognizes the significance of all structures that are all visualized on the oscilloscope at all times; to differentiate artifact from normal or pathological processes.

• Able to determine if the anatomy is normal or abnormal, and if deemed, be able to delineate the abnormality and to extend the scope of the study appropriately.

• Possesses ability to deviate from normal technique when necessary and to develop better techniques.

• Provides technical assistance for amniocentesis.

• Makes frequent calibration checks; calibrate, adjust and maintain ultrasound equipment.

• Participates in reading sessions with the physician and contributes technical and professional knowledge to the final diagnostic impression or report.

• Reviews pathology, surgical and delivery reports to follow patient's progress and provides a means of reviewing the accuracy of the ultrasound examinations.

• Continues review of anatomy and physiology and the effect of disease processes on the human body with relation to ultrasonics.

• Evaluates new products and equipment for possible future use.

• Daily recording and filing of examinations performed and coding cases for preparation of billing. Timely dissemination of reports to proper referring physicians.

• Assists in training of new technologist and, at times, direct orientation of new techniques, research projects and in-service education of other medical staff members. Provides demonstrations of ultrasonic equipment for staff and visitors.

• Instructs student sonographers in patient evaluation and ultrasonic evaluation and ultrasonic examination techniques.

• Completes official sonogram report within 24 hours of scan.

• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly and is well versed in probe cleaning and processing procedures.

• Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, PCM and administrative team.

• Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

• Maintains departmental statistics, accurate recordings, and documents appropriately for each patient.

• Maintains order and cleanliness of equipment and ultrasound area.

• Prepare patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients while performing studies.

• Consults with referring physician regarding patient's previous history and decision of appropriate ultrasonic procedures required.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

• ARDMS certification required.

• Satisfactory completion of formal ultrasound technology training in AMA approved school.

• Good communication skills(written, verbal and telephone).

• Proficient in NT, Nasal Bone, Tricuspid flow, Uterine Artery, Front-Maxillary Facial Angle, Ductus Venous Scans.

• Must possess some degree of independent judgement and discretion in performing procedures.

Hourly Rate: $46.6630

Full – Time (Temporary 35hrs) Union: 1199

Days: Mon – Fri ( Alt. Saturdays) Shift: 9:00am - 5:00pm
