Job summary
The post-holder will be an integral part of the general practice team and work under appropriate clinical supervision. They will support the management of patients' conditions through appropriate training.
We are looking for a post holder who is dedicated to providing the best patient care and who is willing to develop their skills in line with the needs of patients. They must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and be methodical in their approach and record keeping.

About us
Morland House Surgery is in a semi rural area on the outskirts of Oxford with a patient list of approximately 11,500.
There are strong transport links via the A40 and M40 and excellent bus links between Oxford and Aylesbury.
We currently have 40 staff and are supportive of further education and learning, we have regular staff meetings and close for protected learning time.
Socialisation is encouraged and we hold social events throughout the year and have weekly shared lunches and walks.There is plenty of free parking on site and easy access to the local shops and services.

The GP supervisor must consider a Physician Associates knowledge, skills and experience gained through their training and development.
The following are the core responsibilities of the Physician Associate in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks and this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
a. When their named GP supervisor is satisfied that with adequate supervision, the Physician Associate is to provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems by utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient and/or carers
b. Support the management of patients conditions through offering specialised clinics following appropriate training including (but not limited to) family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation
c. Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice, alongside analysing and actioning diagnostic test results
d. Develop integrated patient-centred care through appropriate working with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks
e. Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks
f. Participate in duty rotas, undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems as determined by the practice, including management of patients with long-term conditions
g. Undertake home visits when required
h. Develop and agree a personal development plan utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision
i. Holistically bring together all a persons identified care and support needs, and explore options to meet these within a single personalised care and support plan (PCSP), in line with PCSP best practice, based on what matters to the person
j. Help people to manage their needs through answering queries, making and managing appointments, and ensuring that people have good quality written or verbal information to help them to make choices about their care, using tools to understand peoples level of knowledge and confidence in skills to manage their own health
k. Assist people to access self-management education courses, peer support or interventions that support them to take more control of their health and wellbeing
l. Provide coordination and navigation for people and their carers across health and care services, working closely with Social Prescribing Link Workers, Health and Wellbeing coaches, and other primary care professionals
m. Receive referrals and directed patients from triage services and other clinicians
n. Manage a caseload of complex patients and potential care institutions
o. Plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions for patients with acute and chronic physical and psychological conditions
p. Utilise as needed the full range of non-drug therapies for all patients, consider pharmacological interventions and make recommendations to prescribers in accordance with evidence-based practice and national, local and practice protocols
q. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
r. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
s. Review the latest guidance ensuring the organisation conforms to NICE, CQC etc.
t. Be responsive to the changing needs of patients and service provision in terms of scope and nature of clinical practice
u. Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
v. Undertake clinical responsibilities as required by the organisation within the scope of practice defined by RCP/GMC
w. Identify and be proactive in own training needs and development and as agreed with clinical mentor
x. Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as detailed by the GMC
y. Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedure
z. Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements on behalf of the organisation
aa. Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children
bb. Participate in the management of patient complaints when requested to do so and participate in the identification of any necessary learning brought about through incidents and near-miss events
cc. Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes
dd. Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
ee. Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
ff. Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics)
gg. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Post-graduate Physician Associate course. Has passed the UK Physician Associate (PA) National Re-Certification Exam. Note, this needs to be retaken every six years Maintain professional registration with the GMC following implementation of statutory regulation Other requirements as outlined in the job description .

Experienced of working in primary care setting.
