About this role

Job summary

The Holbrook and Shotley Practice is looking to welcome two qualified dispensers into our busy dispensing practice to join our team. We can be really flexible and offer this position to two applicants on a part-time basis depending on your circumstances or as a full-time position. Your hours will be worked across both our dispensaries at Holbrook and Shotley surgeries, ideally with additional hours as required to cover for annual leave and sickness. You must be able to work on a Monday, Thursday and Friday each week. Shifts will be 8am - 6.30pm (or shifts around these) up to 20 hours for each post.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role:

Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme; Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor; Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient; Process hospital letters; Process dossette boxes; Manage ordering stock and stock control; Answer and deal with dispensary phone enquiries; Monitor patients exemption status; Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication; Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

Our practice team comprises three GP partners, two salaried GPs, supported by a highly experienced team of nurses, dispensers, paramedics, and a reception team.

Person Specification

If you are an experienced dispenser looking for an exciting new role, then we'd love to hear from you. You will have the following qualifications, skills and experience: Essential

Diploma Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification. 1 year (or equivalent) dispensary/pharmacy experience. Excellent clinical and medication knowledge. Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in GP practice setting. The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career. The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making. The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach. Excellent patient facing inter-personal communication skills.
