Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled support worker to join our team. The successful applicant would be working within a small team of support workers and alongside the Neurodevelopmental Assessment team, contributing to the delivery of a successful and innovative ND advice and assessment service for children, young people and their families in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The post would cover central Cornwall although there isopportunity for remote working in addition to face to face contacts/clinical working (which will require travel between geographical locations for the post).

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be focusing primarily on offering ND Consultations to Young People, their families and professionals where there are concerns in relation to neurodivergence. They will assist children, young people and their families to identify appropriate support and intervention based on individual need, and help to navigate available resources and external support systems. The role is likely to develop over time as the Neurodiversity strategy in Cornwall evolves. There may be opportunities to support the team leads to develop the service further e.g. to offer some information sessions, targeted support, intervention and other innovative ideas to manage the needs of the children and young people.
The support worker will develop an understanding of when there is a clinical need or necessity for a neurodevelopmental assessment, and work alongside the specialist neurodevelopmental assessment team to support decision making.
This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate how they will manage these travel requirements.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience Essential
Foundation level degree/equivalent level 5 qualification in relevant area or equivalent experience Documented evidence of training, knowledge and experience in child development including the fundamentals of Neurodiversity, with specific reference to children Relevant experience of working with children and young people with Neurodivergent needs in community / education settings Experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs

Qualification/Training in working with developmental or educational needs Experience of training others e.g. setting staff / Parents

Excellent communication skills - able to provide and receive complex and sensitive information and overcome barriers to understanding, to include negotiation and problem-solving skills Good presentation skills, both written and verbal Ability to work independently under pressure with good organisational skills Knowledge of Neurodiversity and Neurodevelopmental conditions; acquired through combination of formal training, short courses and experience Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client groups) and evidence of good working relationships
