Job summary

Selby Town PCN is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated GP to join our welcoming and highly supportive team on a fixed-term contract until the end of this financial year (31/3/2027) to support winter resilience.

Main duties of the job

Provide comprehensive primary care services to a diverse patient population, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of acute and chronic medical conditions to be conducted face-to-face or via telephone.

Prescribe medications appropriately and make referrals to secondary care and community services when required.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using electronic patient record systems.

Participate in multidisciplinary team working, clinical meetings, safeguarding activities, quality improvement initiatives, and practice development.

Contributed to health promotion, preventive care, and the delivery of NHS contractual requirements while ensuring high standards of patient care, confidentiality, and professional practice.

Selby Town PCN has a proven history of developing a variety of roles within the PCN & in coordinating & improving services for patients. Our locality network is committed to developing a multidisciplinary workforce which it sees as essential in providing an elevated level of care for its population.

The PCN has 4 local practices, Beech Tree, Posterngate, Scott Road and Escrick surgeries serving more than 50,000 patients. This role is employed by Selby Prime Care Ltd, the employing and contracting company for Selby Town PCN, delivering collaborative healthcare services across our four member GP practices. You would work amongst a vibrant multidisciplinary team including GPs, ANPs, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Nurses, HCAs, all supported by superb administration and reception teams.

The core objective of the GP is to assist practices with the demands over the winter months.

The post holder will maintain the security of sensitive personal & other confidential information & will apply all relevant Information Governance policies reliably to working practice. Additionally, they will be expected to follow secure operating procedures for handling information in all formats, including verbal, written & that held electronically.

The post holder is responsible & accountable for their own practice in line with Infection Prevention & Control that reflects evidence, best practice & legislative requirements.

The post holder will have the appropriate level of child protection & adult safeguarding knowledge, skills & practice required for the post & be aware of & comply with child protection & adult safeguarding policies & procedures.

In addition to observing the Practices rules & procedures, which all staff are required to observe & follow, the post holder is also required to follow general policies & procedures that apply to the employment relationship. It is the duty of the post holder to accept personal responsibility for the practical application of these policies, procedures & standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Fully qualified General Practitioner with current GMC registration and a licence to practice. Included on, or eligible for inclusion on, the NHS England Medical Performers List. Evidence of annual appraisal, revalidation where appropriate, and ongoing continuing professional development. Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance appropriate to the role.

Desirable

MRCGP or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Additional training or qualifications relevant to primary care, long-term conditions, urgent care, safeguarding, womens health or frailty.

Experience Essential

Experience of working in general practice or primary care, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management for acute and chronic conditions. Good understanding of NHS primary care, clinical governance, prescribing responsibilities, referral pathways, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements. Experience of maintaining accurate, timely and high-quality clinical records using electronic patient record systems.

Desirable

Experience of working across more than one GP practice or within a Primary Care Network. Experience of winter resilience, urgent on-the-day care, telephone triage or same-day access models. Experience of SystmOne, EMIS, AccuRx, electronic prescribing and Microsoft Office applications.

Clinical skills and competencies Essential

Able to consult safely and effectively face-to-face, by telephone or through digital routes, using sound clinical judgement and appropriate risk management. Able to prescribe safely, recognise clinical deterioration, manage uncertainty and make timely referrals to secondary care, community services or urgent care pathways. Able to work autonomously within professional competence and seek advice or support when required.

Desirable

Interest or experience in quality improvement, medicines optimisation, frailty, long-term condition management or population health.
