Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the urogynaecology nursing team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for a HCA to join the Specialist team. The speciality carers for women with bladder and bowel problems and also pelvic organ prolapse.
You must have excellent communication skills to engage with patients and colleagues at all levels. You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills and clinical knowledge. This role is Countywide with the Urogynaecology and pessary service provision currently offered across four sites; Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre and Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Evesham community hospital. Main duties of the job
Assist with patients elimination needs, including recording outputs where appropriate and collecting and testing urine and stool samples.
Supporting registered staff by undertaking delegated clinical tasks.
Assisting with the recording and safe keeping of patients property/valuables.
Moving and repositioning of patients.
Dressing/undressing of patients.
Making of occupied and unoccupied beds, tying up of dirty linen bags and despatching to laundry and replenishing of linen and stock cupboards.
Cleaning and tidying examination rooms/clinic areas.
Assist with patients mobilisation, ensuring safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
Assist with occupational, physiotherapy and recreational activities.
Assist in the care of relatives and visitors.
Assist with the care of patients in isolation.
Chaperone professional staff where appropriate and accompany patients to other departments as necessary.
Be involved in patient booking in/admission procedures by introducing patients to ward/department area as directed by registered nurse.
Be adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department/ward as required.
Assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.

1. Clinical/ Leadership
Ensure own actions help to maintain quality.
To support the work of the professional members of the team to prepare patients for and assist with clinical/therapeutic activities or treatments, investigations and procedures.
To undertake clinical activities/procedures and therapeutic activities/ treatments which are delegated by the professional and under their direction.
To report back to and share information with the nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists regarding the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of the patient attending clinics, and to contribute to the nursing record as necessary.
Assist in assessing peoples health and wellbeing and related needs.
To facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives and carers, colleagues and other visitors to the department.
To support patients/relatives in times of distress referring to the appropriate professional and making the best use of available services and facilities eg support groups.
Following appropriate training assist with setting up for minor operations and care of patients pre and post procedure.
Assist in planning, delivering and evaluating programmes to meet peoples health and wellbeing needs.
Following appropriate training carry out, ECG, venepuncture, removal of clips/sutures and drains, catheterisation, bladder scanning, flow rates and other clinical duties appropriate to the area.
Prepare clinical area and equipment as required for specific clinics..
Assist in retrieving patient investigation results, scans and xrays.
Following appropriate training, be responsible for assessing a patients care needs and nutritional needs if required..
To contribute to health promotion within Clinical area.
To support the nursing to monitor standards and achieve high quality performance.
To carry out planned care or treatment at times unsupervised by nursing staff.
To carry out all duties in accordance with Trust polices and procedures.
To be responsible for the care of a group of patients within the outpatient clinics supervised by a qualified nurse.
Establish and maintain communication with people on a routine and operational matters.
2. Staff Development
To act as a mentor and support for the development of Health Care Assistants, assisting with the induction of new HCAs and referring any problem to the Ward Sister/Matron.
To maintain high standards of nursing care, by continually updating own knowledge and skills using both formal and informal learning opportunities.
To at all times act as role model for both new and experienced Health Care Assistants.
To act as Link Nurse along side a registered nurse for areas such as Manual Handling, Tissue Viability, Infection Control and Nutrition.
Development of own knowledge and skills provide information to others to help development. Expected to undertake and complete mandatory in-house Senior HCA Clinical Skills Training Programme.
Clinical Governance
Ensure own actions support equality, diversity and rights.
To contribute to the control of infection by monitoring and reporting any housekeeping issues and maintaining rotas for the regular cleaning of nursing/patient equipment.
To maintain high standards of care by continual updating of own knowledge and skills, both formally and informally.
To comply with Trust polices and regulations and attend mandatory lectures as instructed.
Assist in maintaining own and others health and safety and security.
5. Personnel
To perform basic clerical duties within clinic as required.
