West Rainton Surgery are looking to recruit a 16 hour Pharmacy Technician.We are a supportive, forward thinking teaching and training practice who can be flexible to accommodate the right candidate, With a team of 3 GP partners, 2 salaried GP, GP registrars, a practice nurse, nurse practitioner, a diabetes specialist nurse, 2 health care assistants, a nursing associate, GP Assistant, Care Co-ordinators, practice manager, finance manager and a team of receptionists and secretaries. Many of our team members have been part of our practice for over 15 years.

Main duties of the job Pharmacy technicians are responsible for preparing, supplying and administering medicines. They are key members of the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams and play a vital role in helping patients get the best outcome from their medicines. The role involves liaising with patients, other healthcare professionals and customers to ensure the effective and safe use of medicines.
Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a pharmacist and are registered healthcare professionals that are responsible and accountable for their own accurate and safe practice.
Key responsibilities
providing safe and effective pharmacy services achieving the best outcomes through a patients medicines providing information to patients, carers and other members of the healthcare team responding to patients and customers questions both face to face and over the phone referring problems or queries to the pharmacist Supporting the practice pharmacist with annual audits and targets.

We are situated very close to the A1 between Durham and Houghton Le Spring, in a purpose-built building which is has been newly renovated to accommodate our very bright and exciting future. The building work has increased the size of the building and include an additional 3 large consulting rooms, making our practice a truly great place to work.
We have a fantastic team, therefor the right person will need to have a genuine passion for patient care and be a real team player.
The practice maintains a very high QOF achievement, offering additional services such as diabetic clinics, minor surgery procedures, dermatology and sexual health.
The practice uses systmone, supported by systems such as ACCURX, GP Team Net and transcribed dictation systems.
CQC inspected the practice as Outstanding in 2025, with very high patient satisfaction, with consistently positive FFT feedback month on month.

Qualifications Essential
To practise as a pharmacy technician in England, you'll need to complete an accredited course and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
