Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for providing essential operational support to assist with the delivery of a 24/7 frontline Portering service, including the allocation of both patient and non-patient tasks. Thus, ensuring exemplar service standards are maintained and communication lines between the Portering service and clinical services are effective.
The post holder will be required to supervise the day-to-day operation of the porters and Dispatchers; encompassing resource management and deployment; compliance and logistics; and workforce management. To lead the General Porters on all aspects of their work, ensure that the Portering Service is delivered to the agreed standards, ensuring the highest levels of performance are met in line with the Trust's Values and Behaviors and the Portering Pledges. They will monitor and report deficiencies, taking the appropriate action to remedy any issues in consultation with departmental management.
The post holder will also support Dispatching duties during times when existing Dispatchers are away, unavailable, on breaks or for any reason designated by the Portering Team Leader/Manager
Main duties of the job
Responsible for supervising the day-to-day delivery of an efficient and effective Portering service; combining both resource management and deployment, specifically dispatching the porters to the required locations; together with providing shift management for the Portering team.
Supervision of Portering tasks and management of the Portering Task Management system. Ensuring dispatching of Tasks to the porters is in a timely manner, notifying service users of any unforeseen delays which may impact upon patient experience.
Undertake Dispatching duties during times when existing Dispatchers are away, unavailable or on breaks or for any reason designated by the Portering Team Leader.
Assists in authorising team annual leave requests and weekly timesheets; reports and records sickness/absenteeism, conducting return to work interviews and taking corrective action in accordance with Trust policy.
Part of the position will be to fill in for the Portering Site leaders during times of absence or as directed by the Portering Operations manager. This will include ensuring the day-to-day running of the department is carried out, along with ensuring that all staff files, training data, sickness absence information, disciplinary matters and any other relevant documentation is correctly stored and maintained.

Qualification/ Education Essential
Relevant level of operational experience in delivering effective patient logistic services. Educated to 'NVQ' Level standard or equivalent experience Good command of oral and written English language Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
