Job summary
The Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) team at Whittington Health NHS Trust delivers core elements of the Trust's undergraduate medical education programme. The post is suitable for doctors post-Foundation, core trainees or locally employed doctors.
The Trust currently employs 6 Undergraduate Clinical Teaching Fellows in various specialties as well as a midwifery tutor.
This role combines:
Undergraduate teaching
Simulation-based education
Educational project leadership
Quality improvement
Clinical exposure ( 1/2 day per week or 1 day per fortnight)
Exam preparation and assistance with piloting and delivery
CTFs contribute to curriculum delivery, assessment, simulation, bedside teaching, and faculty development and we expect the post holder to be able to work across multiple specialties. The fellow selects a primary educational project expected to lead to an abstract and/or publication.
Applications to complete a PGCert or MSc in Medical education will be encouraged - and dedicated academic time (half a day per week) and partial funding could be made available with a financial contribution of up to £2300 per year.

Main duties of the job Main Duties of the Role
Maintain clinical practice for 1/2 day per week (or 1 day per fortnight) within the base specialty. Support the Director and Deputy Directors of Undergraduate Medical Education in delivering undergraduate teaching programmes. Plan, organise and deliver Year 4 and Year 5 teaching, including Introduction and Orientation Modules (IOM), bedside teaching, tutorials, lectures, clinical skills, simulation and case-based discussions. Contribute to formative and summative assessments, including OSCEs and CPSA examinations. Lead an educational quality improvement project aligned with the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) strategy, ensuring sustainable improvements to the student experience. Develop simulation-based learning, procedural skills training and Foundation Programme teaching aligned with undergraduate education. Lead the Student Education Tutor (SET) mentoring programme and contribute to undergraduate faculty meetings. Provide pastoral support to medical students, responding appropriately to confidential and sensitive issues. Monitor, evaluate and report on educational activities, using data to support quality assurance and continuous improvement. Undertake educational research, disseminating findings through presentations or publications. Maintain a teaching portfolio, participate in appraisal and professional development, and collaborate with Trust and partner organisations to share best practice and enhance undergraduate medical education.

The Clinical Teaching Fellow will support the delivery of high-quality undergraduate medical education across the Trust, ensuring an excellent learning experience for medical students in line with General Medical Council (GMC) standards and the requirements of the affiliated medical school.
The post holder will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education Team, Clinical Tutors and clinical departments to coordinate, deliver and evaluate teaching programmes and student placements.
Main Responsibilities Deliver and facilitate high-quality undergraduate teaching through lectures, tutorials, bedside teaching, simulation and clinical skills sessions. Support the planning, organisation and coordination of undergraduate clinical placements across the Trust. Provide pastoral and educational support to medical students during their placements. Assist in the development, review and evaluation of teaching programmes to ensure alignment with curriculum requirements and GMC standards. Contribute to the assessment of medical students, including workplace-based assessments, OSCEs and other educational activities as required. Participate in quality assurance, student feedback processes and educational governance activities. Work collaboratively with clinical departments and the Undergraduate Medical Education Team to ensure effective delivery of teaching programmes. Contribute to educational innovation, quality improvement and curriculum development projects. Maintain accurate educational records and support reporting requirements. Undertake continuing professional development and participate in appraisal and mandatory training in accordance with Trust policies. Carry out any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as required by the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education.
