Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Assistant within our Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Service, you'll support clinicians in delivering safe, effective and compassionate women's health care across a number of community clinic locations throughout Dorset.
You'll help prepare clinics, support patients before, during and after their appointments, undertake delegated clinical duties within your competencies, maintain accurate patient records and ensure clinical environments are safe, clean and fully equipped. You'll also work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide an excellent patient experience while contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the service.
This is a varied role offering the opportunity to develop specialist skills in women's health, work across multiple clinic locations and play an important part in improving access to high-quality contraceptive services within the local community. Full training and ongoing support will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Healthcare Assistant looking to broaden their clinical experience and develop their career within a supportive NHS organisation.

Job description Job responsibilities Main Purpose of the Role
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within Mid Hampshire Healthcare's Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Service across Dorset.
Working alongside experienced clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of women's health services, ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate and effective care throughout their healthcare journey.
The role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities, supporting the smooth operation of clinics while maintaining high standards of patient care, infection prevention and control, confidentiality and clinical governance.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will:
Support clinicians during LARC and women's health clinics.
Prepare clinical rooms, equipment and supplies.
Undertake delegated clinical duties within agreed competencies.
Record patient observations and maintain accurate clinical records.
Support patients before, during and after clinical procedures.
Chaperone patients where appropriate.
Assist with clinic administration and appointment management.
Maintain stock levels and ensure clinical environments remain clean and safe.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care.
Support service development, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
Work flexibly across a number of clinic locations throughout Dorset.

Essential Criteria
Healthcare Assistant qualification and/or relevant clinical experience.
Experience working within a healthcare environment.
Knowledge of infection prevention and control.
Understanding of patient confidentiality and information governance.
Good IT skills.
Ability to travel between clinic locations across Dorset.
Desirable Criteria
Experience within women's health, sexual health, primary care or community healthcare.
Experience using EMIS.
Experience supporting minor procedures.
Chaperone training.
Experience undertaking clinical observations.

Qualifications Essential
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care, Healthcare Support or a related subject Care Certificate (or willingness to achieve within an agreed timescale) GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics Evidence of continuing professional development Willingness to undertake additional training relevant to the role, including women's health and LARC services
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care Chaperone training Basic Life Support certification Additional training in women's health, sexual health or primary care Phlebotomy qualification (if applicable to your service)
Experience Essential
Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or in a similar patient-facing healthcare role Experience working within a healthcare setting such as primary care, community services, GP practice or hospital Experience supporting the delivery of safe, patient-centred care Experience communicating effectively with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team Experience maintaining accurate clinical records and handling confidential information Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience managing a varied workload and prioritising tasks effectively
