Are you an experienced Emergency Department nurse ready to take the next step in your leadership career? Join our dynamic Emergency Department team as a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding patient care while leading and supporting a dedicated multidisciplinary workforce.This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Emergency Nurse to lead operational activity during shifts, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, drive patient flow, and ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will act as an expert clinical role model, supporting staff to deliver high standards of care while contributing to the achievement of key operational, quality, and performance objectives, including the 4-hour Emergency Department standard.You will be responsible for providing visible clinical leadership, managing operational pressures, supporting workforce development, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and patient safety. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to service development, clinical governance, education, and quality improvement initiatives, helping shape the future of emergency care within the department.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical and operational leadership across a 24/7 Emergency Department service.Support the effective day-to-day management of the department on behalf of the Matron.Lead, motivate, and develop nursing and support staff to deliver high-quality patient care.Coordinate patient flow and support achievement of Emergency Department performance standards.Promote a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous learning.Lead on clinical governance activities, including incident management, audit, risk management, and implementation of learning.Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.Ensure compliance with Trust policies, CQC standards, and national emergency care requirements.Support workforce planning, recruitment, retention, appraisals, sickness management, and staff development.Monitor and manage departmental resources, staffing, stock, and equipment effectively.Act as a visible clinical role model, promoting professionalism, compassion, and Trust values.Support education, training, and continuing professional development for all staff.Participate in service development initiatives and lead improvement projects where appropriate.Ensure staff are prepared to respond effectively to major incidents and emergency situations.
