As a Junior R&T Engineer in the NETCOM group, you will contribute to cutting-edge research on wireless network architectures and distributed communication systems, with applications spanning aerial and space platforms. Under the supervision of experienced researchers and engineers, your main responsibilities will include: • Network architecture design: Contribute to the definition and modelling of communication network architectures for multi-node distributed systems, including the specification of inter-node link technologies, bandwidth and latency requirements, and Quality of Service (QoS) classes. • Protocol development: Assist in the design and implementation of cross-layer communication protocols, covering message prioritization, timing constraints, synchronization logic, and fault-tolerant fallback mechanisms for degraded link conditions. • System integration: Support the definition of data formats and interface specifications required for the integration of communication layers with onboard sensing, processing, and command chain components. • Simulation and performance evaluation: Develop and run simulation models to evaluate network performance under realistic operational conditions, contributing to the validation and benchmarking of proposed architectural solutions. • Prototyping and testing: Assist in the implementation and laboratory testing of communication modules, including SDR-based platforms and protocol stacks, contributing to the validation of prototypes in controlled environments. • Documentation and reporting: Contribute to the drafting of technical deliverables, scientific publications, and presentations at project meetings or conferences. Education • Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. • Studies covering one or more of the following topics: wireless communication systems and protocols, network architecture and design, distributed systems, artificial intelligence, software-defined networking, or embedded systems. Experience and skills • 0 to 2 years of relevant professional or research experience (including internships and Master's thesis work) in wireless networks, communication protocol design, or distributed time-sensitive systems. • Good understanding of network architecture design principles, including protocol stack design, Quality of Service (QoS), and link management. • Familiarity with inter-node communication and coordination protocols for distributed or multi-agent systems. • Knowledge of wireless communication technologies and standards. • Programming skills in Python, C/C++, or MATLAB for simulation, performance evaluation, and protocol implementation. • Familiarity with network simulation tools (e.g., ns-3, OMNET++, or equivalent). • Ability to work under supervision while progressively developing autonomy. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret results and formulate conclusions. • Collaborative mindset, comfortable working in a multidisciplinary and international consortium environment. Language skills • Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset. This position offers a gross monthly salary between €5043 and €5527, paid over 13 months (€65559–€71851 annually) based on full time employment. The final salary offer within this range will be determined based on the candidate's overall profile, qualifications and professional experience . For part time employment, the salary is adjusted pro rata.
