About this role

The Facilities Engineer participates across the full lifecycle of Chord Energy's upstream surface facility assets in the Williston Basin — from development planning, through detailed design and project execution, to ongoing operations support and optimization. The primary focus is on central tank batteries (CTBs) and multi-pad developments connected via flowlines, including the associated separation, storage, and produced-fluid-handling equipment at the CTB.

This role requires a strong understanding of the design, construction, and operation of upstream surface facility assets, and the versatility to move fluidly between planning, execution, and operations work as project and business needs dictate. This position is based in downtown Houston, TX, with travel to North Dakota. A hybrid work schedule offers remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Development and Reservoir Engineering to translate Chord's multi-year development program into facility capacity, pad, and CTB planning requirements

• Lead conceptual engineering and scoping for new pad/CTB development, including capacity assessments, tie-in evaluations, and infrastructure gap analysis

• Prepare cost estimates and AFE-level economics for capital projects from conceptual scoping through detailed estimates; support annual and multi-year capital forecasting cycles

• Collaborate with the Marketing team and third-party midstream providers to understand fluid spec requirements (oil, gas, produced water) and system capacities, and translate those into CTB design requirements

• Manage project execution and technical scope from detailed design through procurement, construction, and commissioning/start-up

• Direct and coordinate the work of engineering/drafting and multi-discipline contractors (civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & controls) to deliver facility designs on schedule and budget

• Review and approve P&IDs, PFDs, plot plans, and equipment specifications; drive design optimization for cost, constructability, and operability

• Perform or oversee hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations for flowlines, pumps, compressors, separators, and other surface equipment

• Manage contract engineering services, ensuring designs meet API/ASME codes and Chord design standards

• Lead construction-phase technical support, RFIs, field walkdowns, and punch-list resolution through commissioning and start-up

• Serve as primary facilities engineering support during commissioning and the post-first-production period (through 60 days), ensuring a smooth handover from Execution to Operations

• Troubleshoot day-to-day operational issues on surface equipment at CTBs

• Evaluate existing facilities to determine upgrades or modifications needed to support new pad development, workovers, or changing production profiles

• Monitor facility performance data (SCADA, ProCount) and recommend process or equipment changes to improve reliability and efficiency

• Partner with Production Engineering and Operations on shutdowns, curtailments, and other facility-related production impacts

• Lead or participate in PHAs, Risk Assessments, and Incident Investigations

• Develop and/or advise on Facility SOPs and design best practices

• Support and maintain project/operations KPIs and reporting; perform project lookbacks after completion

• Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, Land, Legal, Regulatory, and Accounting, along with external contractors, equipment providers, government agencies, regulatory bodies, landowners, and other producers

• Contribute to safety leadership on the Facilities team

This job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the position. Incumbents will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and duties outside of their normal responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or related)

• 3+ years of oil and gas facilities engineering experience

• Working knowledge of P&IDs, PFDs, and hydraulic/network modeling (PipeSIM, Pipeline Toolbox, or similar)

• Operations background with understanding of the design, construction, and operation of facility assets

• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; ability to work with internal and external contacts across engineering disciplines and business functions

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company

• Efficient in Microsoft 365

• Strong economic and cost-estimating skills

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of oil and gas facilities engineering experience

• Familiarity with fluid specifications and takeaway capacity constraints across third-party gathering/midstream systems (oil, produced water, gas)

• Central Tank Battery (CTB) design or operations experience

• Experience with capital forecasting, AFE processes, and multi-year development planning

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional/multi-disciplinary initiatives and mentor junior engineers
