About this role
Brenntag Food & Nutrition Italy is a state of the art centre entirely dedicated to the development, production, and distribution of food ingredients and solutions. Our Innovation & Application Centre includes dedicated areas for bakery, convenience food, ready meals, soups and sauces, meat, poultry and fish, dairy and ice cream, functional foods, supplements, and dietetic products, equipped with pilot plants and technologies capable of scaling industrial processes. Within this context, the Application Technologist will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of new applications for the bakery market, contributing to product innovation and the technical-commercial growth of the Business Unit.
Role Purpose
The position is responsible for the development, validation, and optimization of new applications in the bakery segment, working closely with the technical, sales, and marketing teams to introduce innovative, functional, and sustainable solutions to the market.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop new formulations and applications for the bakery market
• Perform laboratory and pilot-scale trials to assess ingredient functionality and process performance, ensuring thorough documentation of results
• Provide technical support to the sales team, offering expertise on ingredients, formulations, and applications for customer projects
• Collaborate with suppliers and technology partners to test and evaluate new ingredients or innovative solutions
• Prepare samples, prototypes, and technical documentation to support development activities and customer presentations
• Contribute to the launch of new food solutions in collaboration with the technical marketing team
• Ensure that project knowledge and application data are effectively documented and shared within the team
• Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and food hygiene standards during laboratory and pilot-scale activities
Requirements
• Degree in Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in a technical or application development role within the food industry, preferably in the bakery sector.
• Good understanding of food processing technologies and product formulation, particularly in the areas of bread & buns, sweet baked goods, cakes, laminated products, gluten-free bakery products.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Team-oriented mindset and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical, sales, and marketing functions.
• Good command of English, both written and spoken.
• Accuracy, scientific curiosity, and passion for food innovation.

• Salary range: €38,000 – €42,000
The salary range indicated in this job posting represents an average estimate for the position. The final compensation package will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, in accordance with applicable EU pay transparency and equal pay requirements.
