About this role
Digital Consultant – Agentic AI
• Work within our Digital Consulting team to design, build, and embed agentic AI solutions that transform how work is performed across Beca
• Play a hands-on role in supporting Beca’s AI Strategic Programme, enabling teams to adopt and scale AI capability
• Combine business analysis, hands-on building, and design judgement to create AI agents that deliver measurable impact
Beca Digital is in a significant stage of growth, working with our clients to solve real world, complex and unique problems to make everyday better. Our teams work together to design, build, and scale AI-enabled solutions to meet our varied and complex delivery and technical workflows, making our Digital Consulting roles both challenging and impactful.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
You will join Beca’s Digital Consulting team, working alongside a talented group of digital consultants, engineers, and specialists to support the delivery of our AI strategic programme.
As a Digital Consultant – Agentic AI, you will focus on and lead the application of agentic AI in practical, real-world ways—partnering with teams across Beca to understand how work is currently performed, redesign workflows, and design and build AI agents that improve efficiency and outcomes.
Building a good AI agent draws upon both business analysis and software engineering skills. You will elicit knowledge from the people who do the work, design the interaction with the agent, write the instructions that govern the agent's behaviour, and run a tight build–test–iterate loop. You will own the agent end to end, building directly with the model rather than handing over a spec, using contemporary platforms including Copilot and Claude.
You will operate at the intersection of business analysis and technical delivery. This includes engaging with teams to understand challenges, mapping workflows, identifying opportunities where AI can add value, and designing and building agents using contemporary platforms including Copilot and Claude.
A key part of the role is building capability, not dependency. You will work alongside teams - often building the first agents beside an emerging local builder and then handing over - so they can design, build, and maintain their own AI agents over time, supporting the long-term uplift of AI capability across the business.
Mōu ake | About you
You will bring analytical thinking, technical curiosity, and strong communication skills, with a genuine interest in how these models behave and what they can and cannot do. You are comfortable with ambiguity, work well independently, and are confident challenging convention - including suggesting to senior stakeholders when there is a better way.
You are at ease engaging with teams to understand how work is done, challenging assumptions, and translating business needs into structured, actionable solutions.
You will have:
• 5+ years experience in business analysis, consulting, process improvement, or digital delivery
• Practical hands-on exposure to AI tools or automation technologies, working directly with AI models (e.g. prompt design, agents, low/no-code tools)
• model intuition and a test-and-learn approach — comfortable reading transcripts, forming a hypothesis about behaviour, and iterating quickly
• elicitation skills: drawing tacit knowledge out of an expert and structuring it, without needing to be the expert yourself
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex workflows and identify opportunities for improvement
• Confidence working with stakeholders at different levels and building trusted relationships
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and practical way
• comfort with ambiguity, self-direction, and a willingness to work hands-on with new tools and continuously learn.
