PRN MRI Technologist

The PRN MRI Technologist performs high-quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role safely positions and assists patients, operates MRI equipment, administers IV contrast when appropriate, and provides compassionate patient care while ensuring exceptional image quality. The PRN MRI Technologist supports ad-hoc staffing needs and maintains compliance with MRI safety standards, departmental policies, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations while supporting a safe, efficient, and patient-focused imaging environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality MRI examinations according to physician orders, departmental protocols, and established quality standards.

• Safely position, move, and assist patients to obtain accurate diagnostic images while promoting patient comfort and safety.

• Educate patients and family members about MRI procedures, contrast administration, and safety precautions to promote understanding and cooperation throughout the examination.

• Conduct comprehensive MRI safety screenings prior to imaging procedures.

• Prepare and administer IV contrast materials in accordance with departmental protocols while monitoring patients for adverse reactions.

• Utilize appropriate coil selection, positioning techniques, and immobilization devices to optimize image quality.

• Provide direct patient care within the scope of practice while monitoring patient condition throughout imaging procedures.

• Complete accurate documentation and perform required clerical duties within the electronic medical record and imaging systems.

• Maintain MRI exam rooms by ensuring they remain clean, stocked, organized, and ready for patient care while performing routine equipment cleaning and safety inspections.

• Monitor inventory levels and notify appropriate personnel when supplies require replenishment.

• Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate quality patient care.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, AdventHealth policies, MRI safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain required certifications, licensure, annual education, and departmental competencies.

​ Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of MRI procedures, MRI scanners, and imaging protocols

• Knowledge of MRI safety standards and patient screening requirements

• Ability to independently perform MRI procedures with exceptional technical quality

• Knowledge of Basic Radiation Safety concepts, including ALARA principles

• Basic IV skills and experience with contrast administration

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and general physics

• Excellent customer service and patient care skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

• Ability to adapt and perform efficiently in a fast-paced, changing healthcare environment

• Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends and holidays

• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office

• Experience with PACS and imaging computer systems — Preferred

• Knowledge of computer systems and networking

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in conversational English

• Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures

• Commitment to maintaining required licensure, certifications, annual education, and professional competencies

• Ability to perform duties with professionalism, integrity, courtesy, and ethical judgment

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to address the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-specific needs of the patients served

Education

• High School Diploma or GED — Required

• Associate Degree — Preferred

Experience

• One year of radiology experience and completion of an MRI training program — Preferred

Licensure & Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required

• Registered Technologist – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RT(MR)(ARRT)) — Required

• OR

• Registered MRI Technologist (ARMRIT) — Required

Pay Range:
