This Position reports to: R&D Leader(Industrial Software)-AUEN BL What We Believe In ABB's Process Automation business area enables customers to operate some of the world's largest and most complex industrial infrastructures, helping them outrun – leaner and cleaner. Your Role and Responsibilities In this role, we are looking for an experienced Technical Lead – Cloud & Edge Platforms to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. The role requires a strong technical leader with expertise in cloud-native application development, software architecture, Edge computing, cybersecurity, and modern engineering practices. You will be responsible for leading the architecture, design, and delivery of next-generation industrial software platforms while collaborating with global engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performance SaaS and Edge solutions. This role is contributing to the Process Automation – Automation Digital organization in Bangalore, India. Main stakeholders include Product Management, Architecture, Platform Engineering, Software Development, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and global engineering teams across Norway, Sweden, Germany, and India. You will be mainly accountable for
• Lead the architecture, design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade Edge and Cloud software platforms by defining scalable SaaS and PaaS architectures, microservices, cloud-native applications, and reusable engineering frameworks that support next-generation industrial automation solutions. • Drive engineering excellence by establishing architecture standards, secure software development practices, observability frameworks, performance optimization strategies, and technical governance while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards and ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) requirements. • Collaborate with Product Management, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and global engineering teams to define technology roadmaps, conduct architecture reviews, manage technical debt, and deliver secure, resilient, and highly available software platforms aligned with business objectives. • Mentor engineering teams by promoting modern software engineering practices, leveraging Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve developer productivity, accelerate software delivery, and foster continuous innovation across the engineering organization.
Qualifications for the Role
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. • 10–15 years of experience in enterprise software development with proven expertise in technical leadership, software architecture, and cloud-native platform engineering. • Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET Core, Microservices, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native application development on Microsoft Azure, along with containerization technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or MicroShift. • Experience with React, TypeScript, Kafka, MassTransit, relational databases, time-series databases, Agile development methodologies, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and modern DevOps and CI/CD practices. • Good understanding of Edge Computing, Industrial Automation platforms, industrial communication technologies, distributed systems, observability, scalability, resilience, and enterprise software architecture. • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC), OWASP, ISO 27001, NIST, IEC, GDPR, authentication, authorization, encryption, and ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) practices. Experience with Generative AI, Agentic AI, and LLMs in software engineering workflows is considered an advantage. • Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead global engineering teams and drive architecture decisions for large-scale industrial software products.
