This Position reports to: R&D Leader(Industrial Software)-AUEN BL What we believe in ABB’s Process Automation business area enables customers to operate some of the world’s largest and most complex industrial infrastructures, helping them outrun – leaner and cleaner. Your role and responsibilities In this role, we are looking for an experienced Product Architect to join our Industrial Automation Digital organization. You will define the architecture strategy and technical roadmap for next-generation industrial software platforms built on Edge and Cloud technologies. As a key technical leader, you will drive architecture governance, engineering best practices, and technology adoption while collaborating with global engineering teams to build secure, scalable, and high-performance SaaS and PaaS solutions. You will be mainly accountable for
• Define and drive the technical vision, architecture strategy, and engineering standards for Edge and Cloud-based industrial software platforms, ensuring scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performing enterprise solutions. • Lead architecture design, technology selection, and governance by establishing reusable frameworks, cloud-native patterns, AI-enabled engineering practices, and cybersecurity standards while ensuring compliance with ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) and industry frameworks. • Collaborate with Product Management, Platform Engineering, and global stakeholders to develop product roadmaps, architectural runway, platform evolution strategies, and technical governance while mentoring engineering teams and promoting architecture excellence. • Drive continuous platform optimization by reducing technical debt, improving developer productivity through AI-assisted engineering, and maintaining comprehensive architecture documentation, threat models, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications for the role
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline with 12+ years of experience in software architecture, platform engineering, and enterprise product development. • Strong expertise in cloud-native architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, Microservices, Microsoft Azure, SaaS/PaaS platforms, distributed systems, REST APIs, C# .NET Core, relational and time-series databases, with experience in React and TypeScript being desirable. • Hands-on experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI-assisted software development, Specification-Driven Development, and modern AI application architectures. • Strong knowledge of event-driven architectures, messaging platforms such as Kafka or MassTransit, Agile methodologies, Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices. • Good understanding of Industrial Automation architectures, Edge Computing, Industrial Communication Protocols, IT/OT systems, networking, and cybersecurity principles including OWASP, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA). • Proven experience designing secure, scalable, and highly available enterprise software architectures while driving technical governance, mentoring engineering teams, and influencing strategic technology decisions across globally distributed organizations. • Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills with exposure to Industrial Automation, Process Industries, Energy, or Digital Manufacturing domains considered an advantage.
